Coach Geno Auriemma (UCONN Womens Basketball) advice to high school coaches, etc.

Hope you guys got a chance to hear Mike & Mike (ESPN) interview Coach Geno Auriemma (UCONN) this morning. Asking him why they are so much better than all the college womens teams out there, I thought he gave "common sense" reasoning. He said there is too much traveling to play many games with different levels of competition. Unless you drill basic fundamentals of the game and spend great amount of time in practicing, your team will never achieve the best results from each player. He said the players on his team don't want to be "just good enough" because they have been trained (through much practice) to never think in that manner. Even if they are 10 points ahead it's not in their training to just coast from that point. He said when intense practice takes place at the high school level you will see college teams really improve. So, all these travel teams apparently take away from what is most important (according to Geno).

Wow! Four (4) consecutive national championships for the UCONN womens basketball team and Coach Geno. Colleges need to really revamp their programs to achieve the level UCONN has on the court.
