    2025 Ohio Side OVAC Schedules

Don't hate the post! I realize we're only half way through the 2024 season but I'm curious to what changes some schools will have on next season schedules? Ohio side only. Please no negative replies.

Speaking of Ferry's 2025 schedule I am seeing this for next year not sure how accurate:

    MARTINS FERRY
    1@ Shadyside
    2@ Hannibal River
    3
    4
    5
    6(H) Brownsville (PA)
    7(H) Buckeye Local
    8@ Cambridge
    9(H) Rootstown
    10@ Bellaire

I assume weeks 3,4,5 Barnesville, Harrison Central, and Union Local will be added for Buckeye 8 small/large school play.

FYI their is a forum on Yappi.com someone does a good job with the schedules over their. Many teams listed.

Could someone please tell me what is going on with these two leagues, Buckeye 8 and the MOVL Leagues who is in what league now, this so confusing, how can Barnesville and Buckeye Local only be in the MOVL for only two years and leave already,is the Buckeye 8 going to a big school small school division now, and where does this leave the Movl league now who's in who might be joining ,I would like someone to explain all this mess

I'd assume there will be a change in week 6 also. Bellaire opted out of going to Brownsville next season. Not worth the travel and gain .nothing.

Abysmal conference. Wouldn’t be shocked if it dissolves in the next couple years. B8 will be split small school and big

Are you saying that the MOVL will not make it,I don't understand why this league can't make a go of it, most of them play each other anyways, do away with the big school small school thing, there's only three schools in the small division, there's no reason why these 7 schools can't make this league work
              River
              Shadyside
              Monroe Central
              Caldwell
              Shenandoah
              Frontier
              Bridgeport
Beallsville doesn't have the athletic program to compete with these schools, they just can stay independent

I don't why Big Red doesn't play more Ohio teams, instead some goofball out of state teams from Pennsylvania and Washington dc

Maybe the Question should be why don’t More OVAC teams step up and play Big Red? Big Red has 4 State Championships. Pretty sure they are doing something right. How many do ALL THE OTHER OHIO OVAC Teams (other than Steubenville Catholic Central) have combined?! ZERO. They play teams that will help them meet their goals. Winning a OVAC banner Ain’t one of them.

BINGO. And this is a big reason why valley football has lost so much excitement in recent years. Population decline along with the rise in popularity of other sports is part of it, but scheduling wins is a huge reason why we don't get to see a lot of the traditional, local rivalry games being played and that's a real shame. You make a GREAT point about state championships too. That's always quoted as the reason why many local teams will travel several hours away for an automatic win versus staying close to home and playing a more competitive team. The problem with that philosophy is that the overwhelming majority of these teams don't even sniff a state title in most years. Also, considering how many teams make the playoffs on both sides of the river nowadays, what does it even matter? Ultimately, the kids, and the communities at large, are being hurt as a result of these short sighted decisions.

Playoff success relies more on having talented players, strong coaching, and favorable matchups than on a grueling regular season schedule. At the lower division levels (5-7), just 2-3 strong teams are often sufficient to prepare a program for the playoffs. These smaller programs typically lack the depth to withstand injuries that can occur when facing 4 or more tough opponents during the regular season.

Of the local programs, St. Clairsville stands out as the one that has failed to schedule an annual matchup with Big Red in recent years. There seems to be no valid reason why they have not faced Big Red over the past decade. A review of St. Clairsville's schedule reveals that they only play two opponents larger than themselves.
