Bethany Earns Top Seed, Hosting Rights for 2011 PAC Softball Championship Tournament

WEXFORD, Pa. – Bethany College has earned the top seed and will serve as the host institution for the 2011 PAC Softball Championship Tournament, scheduled for this Friday-Saturday (May 6-7) in Bethany, W.Va.

The Bison (26-14), led by veteran head coach Jan Forsty, finished the 2011 regular season with a 14-2 conference record. Bethany finished just ahead of second seed and defending PAC champion Thomas More (24-11, 13-2 PAC) by virtue of a doubleheader sweep of the Saints on April 29. Third seed Westminster (18-14, 11-5 PAC) and fourth seed Waynesburg (16-14, 8-8 PAC) round out the participants in the double-elimination tournament, with the winner earning an automatic bid to the 2011 NCAA Division III Softball Championship.

Play begins on Friday at 11 a.m., with the top-seeded Bison hosting the fourth-seeded Yellow Jackets, followed by the Saints and Titans in the other opening round game at 1 p.m. The championship game is tentatively scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m.

Founded in 1955, the Presidents’ Athletic Conference continues its mission of promoting intercollegiate athletics and the pursuit of academic excellence. Consisting of 10 select private institutions in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Kentucky, the PAC remains a unique organization in this day of high pressure intercollegiate athletics. With academics at the center of each member’s philosophy, the PAC is built on the principle that an athletic program is a part of college life, but not an entity in itself. The PAC annually crowns champions in 19 sports (10 men, nine women).

Following is the complete 2011 PAC Softball Tournament schedule:
