WEXFORD – Two members of the Bethany College PAC champion men’s basketball team were honored with All-PAC recognition Tuesday when junior British Alexander (Trotwood, Ohio/Trotwood Madison) was named First Team and sophomore Nick Wilcox (Venetia, Pa./Peters Twp.) received Second Team distinction.
Led by Alexander and Wilcox, Bethany captured the program’s 13th PAC championship, most in conference history, and earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Bison (21-7) begin NCAA play Friday night against Manchester (Ind.) College (21-6) in a 5:30 p.m. tip-off at the College of Wooster.
Alexander earned First Team laurels in his initial year with Bethany after transferring to the school prior to the year. The two-time PAC Player of the Week led the conference and set a new Bethany single-season record with 63 blocked shots. In addition, Alexander was 11th in the PAC in scoring with 13.5 points per game, second in rebounding with 8.6, seventh in field goal percentage at 50.8 and eighth in steals with 1.68, all while playing the second-most minutes in the league with 34.00.
Highlighting Alexander’s big first year with the Bison were six double-doubles, including a huge effort in the PAC championship game. In Bethany’s 74-67 victory at top-seeded Thiel, the 6-6 junior totaled 19 points, 12 rebounds, five blocked shots and five steals, as BC clinched its seventh NCAA Tournament bid in school history.
A communications major, British is the son of Marion Grigsby and David Alexander of Dayton, Ohio.
This marks Wilcox’s second All-PAC award, as he earned Honorable Mention status last year as a freshman. He led the Bison and ranked ninth in the league in scoring with 13.7 points per game. The 6-3 forward was also high on the PAC statistical charts with 6.8 rebounds (fifth), 50.0 field goal percentage (ninth), 2.32 assists (10th), 2.18 steals (fourth), 26 blocked shots (fifth) and 34.68 minutes played (first).
Wilcox proved to be Bethany’s most consistent scorer, hitting for double figures in 23 of the 28 games the Bison played this year. Also a two-time PAC Player of the Week selection, he had a career-high 25 points against Saint Vincent Jan. 8 and recorded two double-doubles, including 19 points and a career-best 13 boards in the Jan. 12 victory at Thomas More.
A pre-physical therapy major, Nick is the son of Sharon & David lacey of Venetia, Pa.
