Day Two Recap Only Makes You Want for Day Three

Just a real quick recap of yesterday’s events at the 69th annual OVAC Ron Mauck wrestling tournament, as we are preparing to head back to the tournament here shortly.

The 106-weight class sees the number 1 and 2 seeds advancing to the semis this morning. Mason Wells form Barnesville and Pepper Martin from University advances. 4 seed Johnathan Huntsman from Barnesville and 6 seed from Oak Glenn join them in the semis. Everything in this weight class stayed according to Hoyle pretty much.

The 113-weight class also has the 1 through 4 seeds in the finals. 1 seed Logan Davis from Oak Glenn, 2 seed Tristen Rossiter from Shenandoah, 3 seed from John Marshall Zander Ward, and 4 seed from Martins Ferry Jase Mahoney will decide what happens today in this weight class. While a lot of matches on day 3 look interesting to me, I am personally looking forward to the Tristen Rossiter match up with Zander Ward.

The 120-weight class has the 1, 2, 3, and 5 seeds in the semis. 1 seed Noah White from Wheeling Park, 2 seed Dylan Ward Martins Ferry, 3 seed Bobby Buchheit from Beaver Local, and 5 seed Colton Gillespie rounds out this field here.

The 126-weight class also has the 1, 2, 3, and 5 seeds in the semis. 1 seed from John Marshall, 2 seed Drake Kanyuch from Shenandoah, 3 seed Slaton Pettit, and 5 seed Brady Roberts from Parkersburg South will determine what happens in this class today.

The 132-weight class again has the 1, 2, 3, and 4 seeds advance. 1 seed Dakota King Barnesville, 2 seed Brody Saccoccia from Steubenville, 3 seed Hayden Lamb from Oak Glenn, and 4 seed Carter Pauley all look to be the next champ in this class. This entire group looks not only fast, but strong as well. These young men are some beasts out there.

The 138-weight class also has the 1, 2, 3, and 4 seeds in the semis. 1 seed Skyler King from Barnesville, 2 seed Ryan Martin from Parkersburg South, 3 seed Cal Beadling from Steubenville, and 4 seed Adam Carman from Wheeling Park round out this field.

The 144-weight class has the 1, 2, 3, and 5 seed advances. 1 seed Bradyn Lucas from Wheeling Park, 2 seed Egidio DiFazio from Dover, 3 seed Logan Tague from Barnesville, and 5 seed Nathan Murphy from Parkersburg South will wrestle today and determine what happens.

The 150-weight class has the 1, 2, 3, and 4 seeds advance as well. 1 seed Rese Stephen from Barnesville, 2 seed Quinton Velas from Wheeling Park, 3 seed CJ Spencer from Indian Creek, and 4 seed Savier Faulks from Steubenville rounds out this field.

The 157-weight class again has the 1-4 seeds in the semis. 1 seed Dominic Paterra from Indian Creek, 2 seed Dom Parker from University, 3 seed Ayden King from Barnesville, and 4 seed Kyle Wheeling from Parkersburg South round out this field. This weight class did have a nice upset yesterday with John Marshall’s 12 seed Anthony Baldo beating out a 5 seed.

The 165-weight class is staying according to plan as well with the 1-4 seeds advancing. 1 Jameson Maynard from Wheeling Park, Braxton Dlugopolski from Oak Glen, 3 seed from John Marshall Klypsan Wallace, and 4 seed Gabe Blissenbach from Southern Local make their way to the semis. This class also had an upset yesterday as 12 seed Karson Mihoan from Barnesville beat out a 5 seed to advance to the quarter finals.

The 175 -weight class has the 1, 2, 3, and 5 seeds moving on. 1 seed Luca Felix from University, 2 seed Adam Angel from Cameron, 3 seed George Hulsey from Martins Ferry, and 5 seed Gabe Morgan from Beaver Local will battle to determine what happens here.

The 190-weight class again has the 1-4 seeds moving on. 1 seed Robert Shockey of Parkersburg South, 2 seed Tyler Wise from Brooke, 3 seed Eric Williams from East Liverpool, and 4 seeds Marshall Sayre from Caldwell round out the field here. Unseeded Marshall Meade did make it all the way to the quarter finals in this group taking down a 5 seed along the way. There also was a very hard-fought battle in this group as 10 seed Gavin Washington from Wheeling Park took 2 seed Tyler Wise to overtime in what could have been one of the classics that come out of this tournament.

The 215-weight class has the 1, 2, 3, and 5 seeds move on. 1 seed Lucas Thomas from Harrison Central, 2 seed Brock Kehler from University, 3 seed Eric Brothers from Wheeling Park, and 5 seed Isaac Martin from Wheeling Central will all determine the outcome in this strong division. Watching all day yesterday, this is a class that needs to be watched. Personally, I cannot wait to watch this group. Even 7 seed Ayden Morris from Parkersburg South held up very well in his match against advancing 2 seed Brock Kehler from University.

The 285-weight class also has the 1, 2, 3, and 5 seeds in the semis. 1 seed Marshall Bier from River, 2 seed Landen Thomas from Harrison Central, 3 seed Elijah Llewellyn from Indian Creek, and 5 seed Ryder Hastings from University round out the field.

A lot of what happened on Day two was according to plan as you can see. I give credit to the seeding committee because as it looks, they were pretty spot on. As mentioned, the 215-weight class has some studs and looks to be a very impressive group.

There are so many good wresters in the semi that I can hardly wait to get there and watch. We wanted to go back to every group and pick match ups that we couldn’t wait for, but after looking at the names I don’t think you will see a bad match up all day, as all these young men in the semis have been performing at such a high level. Dover does have a couple kids that look absolutely amazing. My advice is just go watch all day. You will not be disappointed.

As a group Barnesville and Parkersburg South look particular strong in their groups.
