Franciscan Track & Field Break Numerous Records Over the Weekend

Race: Thiel College Tomcat Invitational
Location: Greenville, Pa.
Date: April 15, 2023
Short Story: Franciscan had most of their athletes compete at Thiel this weekend with several more school records broken.

Highlights for the Women

  • Clara Symington had a stellar day. She placed second in the 100m hurdles with a time of 15.71 seconds to break a 13-year old school record time. She followed that up with another second place finish and new school record, this time in the 400m hurdles. She ran a time of 1:05.80 to break Janelle Lunde’s mark of 1:08.14 from 2017.
  • Alana Bradford placed 17th in the 100m dash out of 33 runners with a time of 14.09 seconds.
  • Rebecca Bolster had a great showing in the 400m dash with a time of 1:04.17 to place 11th. Jianna Hanson was not far behind her with a time of 1:05.94. Victoria Unnerstall posted a time of 1:06.74, and Anne O’Boyle was right behind her with a time of 1:07.51.
  • Angelina Toole was the lone Baron in the 800m, as she ran a time of 2:56.72.
  • Clara Gross was the fastest Baron in the 1500m witha  time of 5:40.79.
  • Rachel Hurley placed eighth in the 5000m with a time just over twenty minutes.
  • The 4×400 relay team of Victoria Unnerstall, Jianna Hanson, Rebecca Bolster, and Anne O’Boyle combined to run a time of 4:31.37 to place fifth.
  • In field events, Laura Richthammer had a best long jump of 4.32m to place 19th. Bradford placed in 21st with a jump of 4.23m.

Highlights for the Men

  •  Isaac Heard was the fastest Baron in the 100m, as he placed 27th with a time of 12.05 seconds. Dwayne Gethard posted a time of 12.12 seconds.
  • John Sicree placed 8th in the 400m with a time of 52.65 seconds.
  • David Di Nardo placed fifth in the 1500m with a new personal record time of 4:08.87. Nathanial Tokarsky placed 17th with a time of 4:26.58.
  • Andrew Madigan was the lone Baron to take on the 5000m, as he placed ninth with a time of 16:49.10.
  • Dwayne Gethard ran the second fastest time in school history, as he set a new personal-best time of 1:01.70 in the 400m hurdles.
  • Conal Delaney placed third in the 3000m steeplechase, as he posted the fourth best time in Franciscan history.
  • The 4×400 relay team of Tokarsky, Gethard, Sicree, and Di Nardo combined to run a time of 3:40.16 to place sixth.
  • In field events, Nicholas Brass led the way in the shot put with a best throw of 11.78m to place 13th. Tyson Smith placed 26th. Isaac Turner placed 21st in the javelin with a best throw of 34.87m.

Location: Lewisburg, Pa.
Date: April 15-16, 2023
Short Story: Franciscan had seven athletes make the trip to Bucknell to compete in a massive meet with several Division I and II schools to compete against.

Results 

Highlights for the Women

  • Claire Walters broke the school record in the 1500m, as she ran a time of 4:41.96.
  • Jessica Campbell posted a time of 2:24.59 in the 800m.
  • Brigid Mack placed 18th out of 40 participants in the discus with a best throw of 39.11m

Highlights for the Men

  • Ryan Ozymy broke the school record in the 800m with a time of 1:53.79. He broke the record that was set by All-American Bill Jones in 2013. David Cappello was right behind him with a time of 1:53.95.
  • Miguel Daez placed 17th out of 101 runners in the 1500m, as broke four minutes for a new personal best time of 3:59.31.

Up Next
The Barons will head to Baldwin Wallace this coming Saturday to compete in the 53rd Sparky Adams Invitational. This has become an annual stop for the Barons, and it will serve as their final tune-up before the PAC Championships which will take place on April 27th-28th.
