PITTSBURGH — Catcher Eric Fryer cleared waivers on Wednesday and has been outrighted to Triple-A Indianapolis. Catcher Brian Jeroloman was claimed off waivers by the Toronto Blue Jays.
Fryer was designated for assignment on November 18th to open a spot on the 40-man roster to add Rule 5 eligible prospects.
Fryer, 26, made his major league debut with Pittsburgh this season and batted .269 in 10 games. Combined with Double-A Altoona and Triple-A Indy, Fryer batted .273 with 40 runs, nine doubles, three triples, seven home runs and 27 RBI.
Jeroloman was originally claimed off waivers on Friday. On Monday, he was designated for assignment by Pittsburgh in order to add shortstop Clint Barmes on the roster. Jeroloman’s stay in the Pirates organization lasted a weekend.
Jeroloman, 26, spent the 2011 season with Triple-A Las Vegas and hit .240 with two home runs and 26 RBI in 79 games. Jeroloman was a member of the 2010 Eastern League mid-season All-Star team while producing a .261 average with seven home runs and 33 RBI in 81 game with Double-A New Hampshire.
