The final week of the regular season in high school football is often reserved for a rivalry game – and Ohio features some of the nations most historic games. We’ll take a look at some of this year’s noteworthy games.
St. Ignatius (9-0) vs St. Edward (9-0)
Commonly referred to as the “Holy War”, this rivalry game dates back to 1952. Only 6 miles separate the two schools, both rich in football tradition. Both squads enter this year’s contest undefeated, hoping to cap a perfect season. St. Ignatius leads the all-time series 27-21-1.
Prediction: 28-27, St. Edward over St. Ignatius.
Massillon (8-1) vs Canton McKinley (7-1)
This big time rivalry started in 1894, with this year’s game being the 122nd contest between the schools. The winner of this yearly contest claims the Victory Bell. Massillon leads the all-time series 64–51–5.
Prediction: 34-21, Massillon over Canton McKinley.
Kent Roosevelt (8-1) vs Ravenna (6-3)
This rival town match-up began in 1921. This year’s game is a must win for Ravenna in order to make the playoffs. Roosevelt leads the all-time series 45-34-2.

Bellaire (7-2) vs Martins Ferry (5-4)
On Friday these two schools will meet for the 107th time. With the coveted SPARKY Trophy on the line, both teams are also hoping to secure a spot in the playoffs. Bellaire leads the all-time series 52-48-7.

Dover (7-2) vs New Philadelphia (8-1)
This arch-rival game dates back to 1896. This year’s contest marks the 109th game between the two schools, with Dover winning the past 7 contests. Dover leads the all-time series 52-47-9.
