Just some thoughts from the past season that I observed: please feel free to add i did not get to see every team int he valley play this is just some things that caught my eye!!
Wheeling Central: No matter what you cant say enought about the schedule this team plays. They play most of the year going head to head with bigger and faster teams. They are well coached and come to play each night. They gave a complete beating to The State Champs a few weeks ago unfourtunatly, they had a huge huge debacle in the state tourney vs tucker county.
Bellaire: Coach A will be greatly missed. I had the privalge to get to work some programs with this great man. He makes everyone around him better.
Linsly: Coach Wallace is the right man for this job. He has a boat load of young players coming back: Wallace and Blount. Also watch out for some up and comers this program will be doing big things!!
Zanseville: alot of people forget they are in the ovac but, if you get the cahnce to see them they put on a show: Very well coached and make few mistakes. There top player is a senior but, this is a top program year in and year out. They hung with the park this year and deserved to play them for the ovac title!
Fort Frye: Another team many people dont get to see. They make very few mistakes and have about 7 guys who can shoot lights out. Coach Lidetke may be the most under-rated coach in the valley.
St C: Its a neat thing to see this team play: Coach Clifford always has them prepared. Dan Monterosa is the real deal.
Harrison Central: Another Coach Clifford ont he sideline: Justin is a winner and i seen a huge improvemnt in this team since he has taken over.
Madonna: It took something special for these kids to pick them self up after losing to CCHS on thier home floor. They came back with a vegence. I love watchign Conner Arlia play the game he is a machine. Coach Vargo is a great man and earned that state championship!!!!
Wheeling Park: Wow what a team. I know it did not end they way they wanted it but still. They brought basketball spirt back to the city of wheeling the past few seasons. Coach Jebbia is a great coach. Theres no way to replace a Marquez O neal and a Bubby Goodwin but, next years team will retun Bell, Baynes , Lathen, and Popich. I see Luke Saseen as the 5th starter. I will be shocked if this team is not back down in Charleston next march.
Individual Awards in my opinion:
Super Sophmore: hands down dan monterosa
Coach of year: tie Gerorge Vargo and Mike Jebbia its hard to get your team to back to back class a finals!
Player of year: Bubby Goodwin: I been watching this kid play since 5th grade. Every game he brought an un matched passion to the court. He is a clutch preformer and a great kid. It was a pleasure to watch him play!! I hope the rumors are true and i get to see him in a west lib uniform next year!!!
