Penguins Add Another Defenseman, 3 Forwards To Complete Draft

The Penguins went against the thought of most experts and selected Joseph Morrow in the first round on Friday night.  The NHL Draft wrapped up earlier today and the Penguins added four more  players to the organization.

Second Round:

Defenseman Scott Harrington – The Penguins stuck to the defensive mindset and selected Harrington 54th overall.  Harrington is a native of Kingston, Ontario and played for the London Knights of the OHL last season.  While Morrow is  more of a offfensive-defenseman, Harrington is more of a Zybnek Michalek type player and shuts down the opposing offense.  He did however contribute six goals and 16 assists last year.

Fifth Round:

Center Dominik Uher – The Penguins shifted their focus from defense to offense in the fifth round by selecting the 18-year-old Uher from the Czech Republic 144th overall.  Uher played for the Spokane Chiefs of the WHL last season and put up 60 points in 65 games.  I watched some film on Uher and he’s not afraid to throw down the gloves either.  Good pick by the Penguins.

Sixth Round:

Winger Josh Archibald – I don’t know much about Archibald except that he was drafted out of Brainerd High School in Minnesota 174th overall.  He has committed to playing at University of Nebraska Omaha this fall and put up an outrageous 30 goals and 48 assists in only 27 games as a senior.

Seventh Round:

Forward Scott Wilson – The Penguins selected Wilson from Georgetown of the second-tier junior league OJHL 209th overall.  The 19-year-old put up 20 goals and 41 assists in 42 games, but not against the top talent.  It’ll be interesting to keep an eye on Wilson and watch his progression.

Pittsburgh’s own J.T. Miller, was selected 15th overall by the New York Rangers.  Three more local products were selected on day two of the draft as Anaheim selected goalie John Gibson (39th overall), Chicago selected forward Brandon Saad (43rd) and Florida snatched up forward Vince Trocheck (64th).
