The Pittsburgh Pirates today announced that they have agreed to a multi-year broadcasting deal with 93.7 the fan beginning with he 2012 season. Here is the press release:

The Pittsburgh Pirates and CBS RADIO’s KDKA-FM, Sports radio 93-7 The Fan announced today they have entered into a multi-year broadcast agreement beginning with the 2012 season.

The partnership calls for KDKA-FM, the only station in Pittsburgh to feature 24/7 local sports programming, to become the team’s new flagship radio station producing and broadcasting all Pirates regular and post-season games and a minimum of 16 Spring Training games each season.

“We are extremely excited to announce our new strategic partnership with CBS RADIO’s KDKA-FM and to be back home with the CBS RADIO family, which had been synonymous with Pirates baseball for more than 80 years,” said Frank Coonelly, Pirates President. “The partnership allows us to move our flagship station to 93-7 THE FAN, an all sports station with non-stop local programming. It also allows us to maintain the same high-quality broadcasts and reach that our fans have been accustomed to.”

“There is a long and rich history of Pirates baseball on KDKA Radio and we are confident that these two Pittsburgh icons will provide fans with more opportunities to connect with Pirates baseball than ever before,” added Coonelly.

In addition to the game broadcasts, Sports radio 93-7 The Fan will broadcast extensive pre- and post-game shows for all 162 regular-season games, as well as the “Neal Huntington Show” prior to Sunday Pirates games. Outside of game-day action, Pirates flagship station Sports radio 93-7 The Fan along with CBS RADIO stations News Radio 1020 KDKA, WBZZ-FM Star 100-7, and WDSY-FM Y108 will provide baseball fans with a full array of Pirates programs, promotions and events.

“CBS RADIO Pittsburgh is very pleased and proud to present Pirates games on Sports radio 93-7 The Fan, as well as utilize our three other local stations to bring the experience of Pirates baseball to area fans,” said Michael Young, CBS RADIO Pittsburgh Senior Vice President and Market Manager. “In our short history, KDKA-FM has taken a leadership position in the sports radio category, and with this move we’ve further strengthened our local programming line-up and commitment to being the voice of Pittsburgh sports.”

Pirates broadcasters Greg Brown, Tim Neverett, Steve Blass, Bob Walk and John Wehner will continue to call the game action, and will also be heard as regular guests on CBS RADIO’s Pittsburgh stations. Pittsburgh Pirates baseball game broadcasts will continue to be aired on the Pirates Radio Network, which is owned by the team. The network consists of 38 radio station affiliates across four states, and ensures that fans throughout the region will have the ability to listen to the team’s radio broadcasts.
