Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin was extremely disappointed with his team’s effort in last Friday’s 16-7 loss to the Washington Redskins and looks for a bounce back performance from his team.
“We only had 48 offensive snaps and that was due to our defense had a tough time getting off the field and offensively we didn’t do a nice job of converting third downs,” said Tomlin about the loss to the Redskins. “I am excited about our home opener against the Eagles and this is a significant step for our second time out and I am looking for improvement in all areas.”
Tomlin plans to increase the number of snaps for the starters on both offense and defense up to 20-25 snaps against the Eagles.
Both S Troy Polamalu and LB James Harrison sat out last week’s game in Washington, D.C., but Tomlin stated that both will play against Philadelphia.
On the offensive line, Tony Hills will get a chance to start at right guard after Chris Scott started and struggled there in last week’s game.
“Tony played later in the game at right guard and represented himself rather well. We want to give him an opportunity to play against Philadelphia’s first unit and see how he fairs under those circumstance.”
Both left guard Chris Kemoeatu and cornerback Bryant McFadden will not play, along with cornerback Ike Taylor who broke his thumb against the Redskins, but still practiced with the team this week.
“He’s as durable as anybody at his position in football,” Tomlin said of Taylor. “He doesn’t miss games and more importantly, he doesn’t miss practice.”
