Week 1 – OVAC High School Football Spotlight

BIGGEST SURPRISES

Bishop Donahue 48, Cameron 8 – Bishop Donahue showed that last years success was no fluke by toppling Cameron by such a lopsided score.

Steubenville 31, Morgantown 9 – While Steubenville only won 31-9, they went into halftime up 31-0 over Morgantown. Big Red looked like they were in mid season form against the Mohigans.

St. Clairsville Defeats Indian Creek

Meadowbrook 32, Union Local 26 – Coming off a 1-9 season, Meadowbrook had lost 5 straight games to Union Local, dating back to 2006.

Wheeling Central 31, Bellaire 13 – After several off season transfers and declining enrollment, the Maroon Knights were expected to be “down” this year.

BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENTS   

John Marshall 6, Cambridge 58 – The Monarchs gave up over 700 yards of total offense to Cambridge. The Bobcats ran for 534 yards on the ground alone.  Cambridge finished the 2010 season 5-5.

Harrison Central 18, Claymont 40 –  Prior to Friday night, Harrison Central hadn’t lost to Claymont since the 2006 season. Claymont finished the 2010 season 2-8.

Monroe Central 7, Columbiana 13 – Coming off a high pre-season rank, Monroe Central was only able to produce 140 yards against a Columbiana team that went 5-5 a year ago.

Bridgeport 8, Bishop Rosecrans 44 – After going 11-1 last year, the Bulldogs had high hopes that they could continue their winning momentum into 2011 against a Bishop Rosecrans team that went 3-7 last season.

NOTABLE STREAKS

Steubenville has won 12 consecutive season openers, dating back to 2001.

Wheeling Central is 4-0 against the Buckeye 8 since the Conference went into formation.

Steubenville has won 36 consecutive games against West Virginia teams dating back to their last loss in 1962 against Weir.

Weirton Madonna has won 58 straight games when they’ve scored 25 or more points.

Matt Kinnick, St. Clairsville – 20 of 29 passing, 396 yards, 4 touchdowns

Marcus Prather, Steubenville – 12 of 18, 144 yards, 3 touchdowns

Ross Comis, Weirton Madonna – 6 of 6, 169 yards, 2 touchdowns

Spencer Badia, Bellaire – 13 of 26, 221 yards, 1 touchdown

GROUND ATTACK

Clay Lapp, Meadowbrook –  25 carries, 198 yards, 2 touchdowns

Donte Williams, Martins Ferry – 12 carries, 112 yards, 2 touchdowns

Dashaun Lewis, Cambridge – 27  carries, 221 yards, 4 touchdowns

Parker Henry, Wheeling Central – 25 carries, 139 yards, 2 touchdowns

SURE HANDS

Jaylon Brown, St. Clairsville – 9 receptions, 199 yards, 2 touchdowns

Justin Isinghood, Buckeye Local – 3 receptions,  99 yards, 1 touchdown

Zane Ayouch, Union Local – 8 receptions, 162 yards, 3 touchdowns

Manny Ray, Bellaire – 6 receptions, 118 yards, 1 touchdown
