{"id":1086,"date":"2010-05-03T16:24:48","date_gmt":"2010-05-03T20:24:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ovathletics.com\/home\/?p=1086"},"modified":"2010-05-03T16:24:48","modified_gmt":"2010-05-03T20:24:48","slug":"bethany%e2%80%99s-jump-honored-as-pac-pitcher-of-the-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ovathletics.com\/home\/bethany%e2%80%99s-jump-honored-as-pac-pitcher-of-the-week\/","title":{"rendered":"BETHANY\u2019S JUMP HONORED AS PAC PITCHER OF THE WEEK"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WEXFORD, Pa. \u2013 After helping the Bethany College softball team go unbeaten last week, freshman Emily Jump (Milford, Del.\/Polytech) was chosen as the Presidents\u2019 Athletic Conference (PAC) Pitcher of the Week for May 3.<\/p>\n<p>The right-hander went 4-0 and recorded a 1.54 ERA, as the Bison swept twinbills from Thomas More, Thiel and Washington &#038; Jefferson to clinch the #1 seed and hosting rights for the PAC Tournament May 7-8. Jump\u2019s first outing was a five-hit shutout in a 7-0 win blanking over Thomas More, the first conference loss of the season for the Saints. In addition to her work in the circle, Jump also went 3-for-3 in the game and drove in three runs.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, Jump paced BC\u2019s sweep over Thiel by firing a complete game in an 8-2 triumph in the opener. She was summoned from the bullpen in the second game and threw 2 1\/3 innings of relief to earn the win in a 5-4 victory.<\/p>\n<p>Jump completed her week by going the distance again in the first contest against W&#038;J Saturday. She gave up one run on five hits and struck out three in a 3-1 victory. Bethany would also win the second game over the Presidents 7-1 and coupled with Westminster\u2019s 1-0 triumph over Thomas More Saturday, that clinched the top seed for this weekend\u2019s PAC Tournament, the first time BC has hosted the conference tournament since 2005.<\/p>\n<p>With her big week, Jump now stands at 19-8 for the year, which is the most wins by a Bison hurler since Romney Waters went 22-5 in 2004. In the league, she is ranked second in wins, which is also where she stands in ERA at 1.97. Jump also has an impressive 69-8 strikeout-to-walk ratio and has issued just one free pass in her last 58 innings, which was an intentional walk in the Thomas More victory last week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEmily had a tremendous week to go 4-0 when we needed quality pitching,\u201d said Bethany head coach Jan Forsty, who collected her 600th career victory with the second W&#038;J win. \u201cShe did a great job stepping up to help us secure the top seed for the conference tournament, which included her pitching and her work at the plate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A physical education major, Emily is the daughter of Gary and Cindy Ingram of Milford, Del.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WEXFORD, Pa. \u2013 After helping the Bethany College softball team go unbeaten last week, freshman Emily Jump (Milford, Del.\/Polytech) was chosen as the Presidents\u2019 Athletic Conference (PAC) Pitcher of the Week for May 3.
