WHEELING — What’s that saying about talking smack? When you win, say nothing. When you lose, say less.<\/p>\n

I should have taken that more to heart after bragging about my success in the initial set of OVAthletics picks. On second thought, I still got 70 percent of the selections correct a week ago, so I’m going to keep talking.<\/p>\n

In all seriousness, we’ve got a pretty good idea already of who is formidable and who needs some work. Though as we all know, upsets happen. That’s what makes these types of endeavors interesting.<\/p>\n

On the docket this weekend are a handful of games pitting undefeated teams against one another. So I guess you could say this is the toughest week to make selections so far this season,

Thursday<\/strong><\/p>\n

Harrison Central 20, Union Local 19
\nThis would be a huge victory for the Jets, but the Huskies will have just enough to survive.<\/em><\/p>\n

Friday.<\/strong><\/p>\n

University 36, Brooke 12
\nThe Bruins have turned a few heads so far, but they’re stepping up a weight class this week.<\/em><\/p>\n

John Marshall 21, Preston 14
\nThe Monarchs bounced back in their second game behind the running of freshman Klypson Wallace.<\/em><\/p>\n

Wheeling Park 38, Cleveland St. Joe 35
\nThis really was a toss up. How about the start of the Patritots’ schedule? St.C., Big Red and St. Joe. Yeesh.<\/em><\/p>\n

Indian Creek 29, Weir 11
\nSomebody is going to get their first victory, and we think it’s the Redskins.<\/em><\/p>\n

Beallsville 39, Hundred 37
\nA couple of schools experiencing similar issues will do battle this weekend.<\/em><\/p>\n

Madonna 36, Bridgeport 25
\nThe Blue Dons were off last week after receiving a forfeit. They get their third victory the old fashioned way … by earning it.<\/em><\/p>\n

Frontier 22, Cameron 20
\nUPSET SPECIAL:<\/span> This is one of the premier games on the docket this weekend. The Cougars score a big road victory.<\/em><\/p>\n

Clay-Battelle 24, Valley 23
\nThe Cee-Bees bounce back from a blowout loss to East Hardy.<\/em><\/p>\n

River 37, Magnolia 18
\nThe Pilots have found their stride and rival Magnolia is next on the list.<\/em><\/p>\n

Montcalm 23, Paden City 19
\nThe Wildcats got their first victory last week and just narrowly miss their second this time around.<\/em><\/p>\n

Tyler Consolidated 35, South Harrison 28
\nThe Silver Knights have faced a tough schedule. They get rewarded for their hard work.<\/em><\/p>\n

Steubenville 42, University Prep 7
\nIt’s going to take a really special team to beat Big Red. If that happens it’s not going to be until deep in the postseason.<\/em><\/p>\n

Shadyside 33, Barnesville 14
\nThe Tigers are for real. Yet again.<\/em><\/p>\n

Toronto 27, Buckeye Local 12
\nThe Red Knights move to 3-1 to set themselves up nicely as the second half of the season approaches.<\/em><\/p>\n

Caldwell 22, Monroe Central 17
\nThe Seminoles are getting closer, but they’ll have to wait another week to get on the right side of the ledger.<\/em><\/p>\n

\nThe Wildcats will see their record evened at 2-2.<\/em><\/p>\n
