BEAVER, Pa. \u2013 Junior catcher T.J. Zarewicz (Pittsburgh, Pa.\/North Hills) went 4-for-4 with a home run and six Bethany College pitchers limited Penn State-Beaver to just five hits, as the Bison scored a 7-2 victory in their first game since returning from Florida.<\/p>\n
Bethany (5-2) seized the lead early in the contest with two runs in the first inning and another in the second. The Green and White\u2019s lead increased to 4-0 with a solo tally in the fourth, but Penn State-Beaver sliced that advantage in half with two runs in the fifth to make it a 4-2 game.<\/p>\n
That would be as close as the home team would get, as the Bison put the victory away by scoring one run in each of the final three innings. Bethany finished the day with a season-high 17 hits, led by Zarewicz, who slugged the team\u2019s first home run of the season, as well as a triple and two singles.<\/p>\n
Other big hitters for BC included senior CF Tyler Dillinger (McKeesport, Pa.), who hit two singles and a double, sophomore 3B Brad Kubis (Aliquippa, Pa.\/Hopewell), who stroked two singles and knocked in a run, junior 1B Nate Tieman (Hilliard, Ohio\/Hilliard Darby), who ripped two singles, and junior RF Anthony Packer (River Vale, N.J.\/Pascack Valley Regional), who hit an RBI single.<\/p>\n
On the mound, Bethany showed their depth with six different arms throwing at least one inning. Senior Mike Muklewicz (Bridgeport, Ohio) started and threw the first inning. He was followed by freshman Zac Edmiston (California, Pa.), who threw a pair of scoreless innings and struck out two. Senior Zac Grayson (McKeesport, Pa.\/South Allegheny) tossed the next two frames and recorded the win to improve to 2-0 this year.<\/p>\n
The final three pitchers held Beaver scoreless through the last four innings. Freshman Jacob Fischer (Huntington, W.Va.) struck out one in the sixth, senior Mike Kochman (Pittsburgh, Pa.\/Serra Catholic) hurled a scoreless seventh and sophomore Ryan Styche (Buena Vista, Pa.\/Elizabeth Forward) punched out three batters while blanking Beaver in the eighth and ninth.<\/p>\n
Bethany will return to action Friday with its first PAC game of the season. The Bison will travel to Waynesburg for a 3 p.m. contest to open the three-game series and then host the Yellow Jackets Saturday for a twinbill at Bethany Park.<\/p>\n
