{"id":337,"date":"2009-10-12T13:04:39","date_gmt":"2009-10-12T20:04:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ovathletics.com\/home\/?p=337"},"modified":"2010-02-20T14:41:38","modified_gmt":"2010-02-20T19:41:38","slug":"the-west-liberty-hilltoppers-crack-the-ncaa-d2-top-25","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ovathletics.com\/home\/the-west-liberty-hilltoppers-crack-the-ncaa-d2-top-25\/","title":{"rendered":"The West Liberty Hilltoppers crack the NCAA D2 Top 25"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For the first time in school history, West Liberty University&#8217;s football team has been voted into the NCAA Top 25. \u00a0The Hilltoppers (6-1) are ranked #21 in the Nation, with their only lose coming to #12 ranked Edinboro in Week 1. \u00a0The &#8216;Toppers won last week 52-30 at home against WVIAC conference foe West Virginia State.<\/p>\n<p>West Liberty is led by quarterback, and Ohio Valley native Zach Amedro. \u00a0Amedro, a graduate of John Marshall High School was named WVIAC Player of the Week for the 3rd time this season. \u00a0At the mid way point in the season, Amedro has already thrown for 2,537 yards and a school record 27 touchdowns. \u00a0He is currently ranked 2nd in the Nation in passing yards per game.<\/p>\n<p>As a team, the &#8216;Toppers are ranked 2nd in the Nation in total offense.<\/p>\n<p>Other Ohio Valley players on the team include; \u00a0<em>Michael Buffo (Weirton), Chris Keidaisch (Wheeling), Jimmy Burress (Wheeling), Stephen Ford (Cambridge), Jeremy Presley (Steubenville), DeVaughn Gordon (Wheeling), jayson Keyser (Bellaire), Dave Richmond (Glen Dale), Derrick Rovira (Weirton), Zach Foose (Wheeling), Dan Carrel (Flushing), Mike Henderson (Wellsburg), Fred Kimbro (Bellaire), Tom Kettlewell (Wheeling), Mike Jarrett (Wheeling), Sean Lake (Wheeling), Travis Coon (East Liverpool), Steve Woodford (Martins Ferry), Ryan Mirich (Martins Ferry), Tyler Kettlewell (Wheeling).<\/em><\/p>\n<p>West Liberty takes their six-game win streak to \u00a0Shepherd (5-2) on Saturday.
