{"id":8812,"date":"2011-11-22T13:25:10","date_gmt":"2011-11-22T18:25:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ovathletics.com\/home\/?p=8812"},"modified":"2011-11-22T13:34:49","modified_gmt":"2011-11-22T18:34:49","slug":"pirates-make-changes-to-scouting-department","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ovathletics.com\/home\/pirates-make-changes-to-scouting-department\/","title":{"rendered":"Pirates make changes to scouting department"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>PITTSBURGH &#8212; The Pittsburgh Pirates today announced the following changes in the scouting department.<\/p>\n<p>On the Professional Scouting side, Dave Jauss has been named Major League Scout and Alvin Rittman, Jim Dedrick and Rob Guzik have been named Pro Scouts.<\/p>\n<p>Within the International Scouting department, Juan Mercado has been named Latin American Supervisor and Victor Santana has been named Area Supervisor in the Dominican Republic.<\/p>\n<p>On the Amateur Scouting side, Jim Asher has been promoted to Scouting Coordinator and Greg Schilz has been promoted to North Regional Supervisor. Former Bucco lefthander Matt Ruebel has been named National Supervisor and Sean Heffernan, Brian Selman and Mike Sansoe have been named Area Supervisors.<\/p>\n<p>The Pirates\u00a0also\u00a0announced that Gary Robinson has joined the Professional Scouting department as a Pro Scout. The announcement was made by Pirates Assistant General Manager Greg Smith.<\/p>\n<p>Robinson, 59, managed the West Virginia Power in 2011 after managing the State College Spikes the previous two seasons. He joined the Pittsburgh organization after working 10 years (1998-2008) for Major League Baseball as an umpire supervisor and evaluator of Triple-A umpires.<\/p>\n<p>Robinson spent eight years (1991-98) as a scout with the Giants, Mariners and Phillies. He also served as a coach for the GCL\u2008Expos in 1998 and as Head Coach of the UNC-Charlotte baseball program for 10 seasons (1982-1991).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PITTSBURGH &#8212; The Pittsburgh Pirates today announced the following changes in the scouting department.
