There is no one to blame except those that have left recently. You can’t fix it overnight. Reality is if 25 guys leave and only 10 join it’s gonna take time… Of the 10 that join you probably keep 5 after 2 years id guess. Where as the 25 who left were long-standing dependable officials.
It’s gonna take years to correct. Just the reality everywhere now. It’s a National shortage. Games in multiple states cancelling. Just be glad it’s not Varisty stuff….. yet

Young guys not willing to pay dues. Old out of shape guys can't move. Good ol' boy network in assigning games. Travel times over an hour in some instances. Constant abuse from fans, coaches, kids. Run down on social media. No wonder there is a shortage.

I have 1 playing. I don’t want some random guys being thrown out there not ready . As with anything you can have 100 guys sign up but right off the bat 70 of them ain’t gonna cut it. Another 15 will quit because they don’t like it. Of the 15 left you may get 6 who are good.
The problem with officials isn’t a 1 year, 5 year or even 10 year. It’s about 20 years in the making. Its
just hit all at once and in multiple sports.

I don’t have the answer, but I went to a Jr High game the other day where a veteran official could run or even get back to his end of the court. He had his back to the play half the time.
I’ve watched enough in recent years to see guys that shouldn’t be officiating at any level.
I know someone has to do it, but coaches calling the games themselves would be an improvement much of the time.
