Thanks for the post. Good luck to the Thompsons during this difficult time.
Good point Jello Man. Michigan is getting a good player and a fine young man.

Here's a link to the USA Today story online. The article gives a little more detail.

WTOV 9 just did a nice piece on this during the "news" portion of the broadcast. Obviously, it is a really nice story.

(By the way, the reporter is a St. C. High grad).

In the write up it said the REFS signaled a TD when Ferns ran out.......is that true?

                      WOW,
Imagine how the parents felt when they say this selfless act coming from their son. That would have been electrifying play of the week in my book!
I think that someone from StC should submit this article to Sports Illustrated. They can print this in the high school achievements section.

Bloomdaddy reported that Shannon Sharpe or Boomer will be in town to do a story about this.

                            Awesome Yahoo Article About St.C

When Michael Ferns was racing toward the end zone, the Clairsville (Ohio) St. Clairsville High star had nothing in front of him but green grass and glory. He was seemingly seconds away from scoring his 12th touchdown of the season and wrapping up a victory for St. Clairsville against area rival Richmond (Ohio) Edison High. Then, just feet short of the goal line, Ferns slowed and walked out of bounds at the 1-yard-line. Everyone in the stadium was stunned, except for Ferns' teammates, who instantly knew what he was doing: He was setting up a teammate to score a fitting touchdown in memory of his late father, who had died just two days earlier from a catastrophic stroke.
