If it isn't broke, don't change it

I still don't understand why the state championship games have ben changed to Columbus. In my opinion there is no better atmosphere then a state championship in Paul Brown Stadium. 15 to 20 thousand people in Paul Brown stadium is unbelievable. But 15 to 20 thousand in a 100,000 seat stadium is no type of atmosphere in my opinion. Would sound like 20 people there.

I agree... Ohio Stadium will seem like an empty canyon.

But to the people in the western part of the state, it is broken. We got spoiled, we can hop in our cars and drive an hour or two and be in Massillon or Canton. Look how far and time wise they have to travel. You're right Ohio Stadium will seem empty. I don't know how much the OHSAA makes on these playoff games, but I really can't see them losing money. Wonder if the OHSAA ever consider trying to get help from Columbus to build a stadium? The Columbus Schools could use it during the season and for other events, then will have one natural stadium in central Ohio for the finals. Didn't Crew Stadium have playoff games there before? How many does that stadium hold?

It's always going to be closer to someone. Ohio Stadium is just a crappy place to have a high school game.

What about Crew Stadium? I know they've had high school games there.

My understanding, when he was head coach, he wanted the state championships back in Columbus. The OHSAA had to wait until the contract was up with Massillon and Canton before they could switch the sites. But someone out there knows way more about it than I do.

Its more the adults complaining about it than the kids. The players would play on the moon, if they knew they had a chance on winning a state title.

The OHSAA offices are in Columbus, that is all you need to know!!!
Has the OHSAA ever done anything that makes sense? It's all about the $$$$$, somebody's pocket got fatter and they said "hey lets put a high school game in a 105,000 seat stadium", cause that sounds like a great idea!!!

It will not be used since it has a natural grass field. How about a 4 year rotation so each part of the state gets a chance . Cincinnati (Paul Brown and UC field), Columbus (The shoe), Toledo (UT & BGSU) and Akron (Zip stadium and Canton). This way you can be assured that it is closer every four years and each part of the state would get some financial benefit.

To me, a state football championship is about the "atmosphere" not the location. Sure Paul Brown and the drip are closer to teams on the eastern side of the state, but who honestly wants to sit in Ohio Stadium where the echo is going to be louder than the fans of the D1 championship??? Massillon and Canton are the "Mecca" of high school football and even those stadiums are only half full for some divisions. I would bet my house that teams in PA, WV, KY, and other areas would love to play a championship in one of these storied stadiums.

Instead, we get to pack 8,000-10,000 people in a stadium that holds 104,944, pay premium prices for parking, a hot dog, and hot chocolate. I'm sure they aren't going to let the boosters run a food stand. It makes no sense to me to play these games there. Actually I am almost positive it is going to COST more to run the events than they will actually make. It has no purpose being at Ohio Stadium and I for one will watch the games on STO instead of going to Columbus...

Isn't Zip stadium kind of a hole though?

Akron U got a new stadium a few years back, Infocision Stadium on campus. I know Massillon has played a couple of playoff games there recently.

Akron has a new stadium on campus, they don't use the rubber bowl anymore.

It wasn't broke when they moved it from Columbus to Massillon and Canton. Believe me it's far better comming out into the horseshoe rather than the other two. it's a thrill of a lifetime that 99.99999 % of Ohio kids don't get a chance to do.
