Warren Harding's looks to be filled and Steubenville isn't on it.

What about our OVAC stand-bys? Wheeling Park and Linsly? Have they now dropped us, too? Like everyone else named OVAC?
You can take the boy out of the 'Ville, but you can't take the 'Ville out of the boy!!!

Given Linsly's recent scheduling history, I can't imagine they would drop Steubenville. I believe Park is joining the Eastern Panhandle Athletic Conference, which could affect its scheduling.

Find the right O and D line combos, I could see a Final 4 next year with the key kids returning. Think they have a great freshman group, offseason workouts will have a few of those kids varsity ready.

Skill players will be very good. Question is the O and D line. Have to replace a few and the underclassmen on the line were average. Average line play will not result in a final four appearance.

With Park joining that new conference they will be guaranteed 8 football games. They will probably want to play JM as long as JM wants to play. So that only leaves one game. More than likely Big Red is out.

JM will stay on Parks schedule for now and I think Parkersburg South will also giving them 10 games evert year.

It's hard to blame Wheeling Park from dropping Big Red, I give them credit for continuing to play Big Red when they're 1-18 lifetime.

OL- Pass blocking; footwork & balance issues are huge issue across the line vs top talent. Our technique needs improvement. (we need to be more balanced in game planning/play calling and practice) we are a good run team but not great vs Top talent. We run a lot that's why we’re good. We need to find that balance to get better in the passing game. Repetition breeds mastery!!!!

DL- Pass rush and QB containment vs top talent is weak. We are stiff and our get off is not consistent. Turner is the bright spot will only get better. We will have some choices to make (where to play/move and at what position) our tackling needs to improve. Need a NT to play with anger as our anchor.
Point of concern: Tackling in space moving/non moving targets, closing space while under control
w/speed and taking correct angles. Shedding blocks not catching. DL NEEDS TO PLAY W/MAJOR ATTITUDE. OWN THE GAPS!!!!

LB- Bright spot is Crosier. We gave up a ton of LONG RUNS for TD’s. Reading/assignment, vision and angle recognition need to be faster. That lone adjustment will go a long way. I think we should use in spots vs passing teams a 1-5 (pallbearer package) kinda like the Packers have used (1 DL and 5 Backers. I’d work Turner as the Joker (dropping into coverage or moving inside).

Safety- Need to get smarter/tougher at this position. We were young in many spots. More PT the better we will be up the middle.

QB- Not bad for a first year starter. Film study, film study and more film study. Allow/challenge this QB he can handle Coverage Reads vs Progression Reads. Large percentage of pass plays called last year the 2nd or 3rd option were wide open.
I understand they want to make it easy on him to be able to throw in rhythm, but many of the throws are on rollouts or at or behind the line of scrimmage and went to the first option in the progression. If fans like me can see this that's a huge tell for any good defensive team or DC. It only makes blocking, catching and YAC harder to consistently obtain.

The 2nd year jump will be huge. Allow this QB to run that will add to yet another position for the DC to take time and coach for that. Nakedboots/sprintouts/QB Counter/orbitmotion/fakejets plus he can actually run. ATTACK WITH ALL POSITIONS….unlock the paddock and let him get out the gate!

The comeback throw vs Ursuline was wide open and a great completion. The far side throw vs IV from the opposite hash that’s tough at any level. It was between the numbers on the WR. He impressed us many times. Loosen the reins he has more to give more to show. TRUST put him in better playmaking situations.

FB/HB All day Turner. As a OC, I’d make it a point to have him touch the ball twice a possession. One run and one pass. I’d line him up at so many positions RB, FB, HB, TE and SLOT.

They’d better know where he was at. Misdirection plays or not they’d better know where he was lining up at. Same on defense as well. Hand in dirt, standing up, moved inside, Widen out or dropped in coverage. Where’s Waldo!!!

Work on pass catching and route running.

RB-Open the paddock and let this Colt turn into ManOfWar no saddle required. Also, If they don’t design more pass routes/plays for the running backs they’re making it hard for the Oline and the offense as a whole.
Motion the RB’s to the slot create that mismatch for the SAM/WILL/SAFETY nobody is going to be able to cover them. Whip/Wheel/Dumps
Defenses are already playing on the balls of their feet playing top heavy, leaning forward playing the run vs us. Invite them in!!!!

10 pounds added. Work on shedding and pass blocking and route running and catching.

TE- They are soooo open see above comments on teams playing the run. Lbs playing the run on their balls of their feet. Use them trust them let them eat.
                          Turner/Crosier and all others.

Special Teams- please practice them it matters. Also remember…THE EYE OF THE PAST. How many games turned on special teams….Every Championship we’ve won except one! and that one in 17’ they played horrible, no thanks to the coaching staff that put them in that position.

84’ blocked punt for TD. 05’ Blocked punt for TD & blocked FG. 06’ Blocked PA. Last year we could have blocked soooo many punts. Vs Mooney, Erie, Farrell and Dover could have had 3 blocks….if we made it a point of focus and GATA!! Wow how we’ve fallen off on special teams. And let’s not say we’ll our kicking game etc yes great kicker.

But if it don’t go in the endzone it’s track meet or to the 50!!!

I say EYE OF THE PAST for this topic because gee-wiz can you have anymore of a déjà vu then this year vs Licking Valley when we didn’t adjust the depth of the punter to the normal depth and it was blocked just like when we played Licking Valley in 13’!

Coaching-Please TRUST THE PLAYERS, Also, I looked across that sideline vs IV and watched the Coaches, the staff the 1,2,3 &4’s all fired up, jumping around and then looked at our sideline and seen one Coach showing a greater passion…one. We are going to get everybody’s best shot. I say EYE OF THE PAST in quoting BIG John Downard vs Wintersville aka The Cricksters Down 14-0 in the 4th Qtr ‘NOT ON THIS FIELD COACH SAC, NOT ON THIS FIELD!!!! And we won!!!

We need to bring that attitude back….NOT ON THIS FIELD! Let’s Roll!

QB- First yr starter last year. decision-making should be better. Footwork footwork footwork!!! Also throwing from different arm angles and on the run. Learning to throw the WR ‘s open. Getting rid of the ball sooner when the WR’s are open.
On rollouts holds it to long which runs the WR into the boundary and leaves no field for WR’s.

I’d like to see some more back shoulder throws and routes.

considering Haney was a first year starter and we are a run dominate team that imposes our will vs many teams on the schedule, he did pretty decent under defensive pass pressure. First WR open in the progression he would target. Simple is easy. In his second yr lets start to challenge him, put more on his plate and give him more options.

The Oline ability to grow and develop in pass protection will be the key to just how far we can go. The same can be said for the middle of the defense as well.
