Any list without Puck Burgwin is seriously flawed, but it looks like they took more into consideration of what theses players did after high school than during.

Agree with you on both points. It looks more NFL slanted on the first team except for a few.

I dont see how Ben Mauk is not the top quarterback.

He holds the Ohio record with over 17,000 yards in his career... in only a 10 game season, thats a lot more yards than a lot of NFL QBs get in their career.

Maurice Hall in high school was sick too.... he averaged like 15 yards a carry in his career. Had over 3,000 yards his senior year alone.

And now Ben Mauk is the QB for the Cincinnati Commandos of the Continental Indoor Football League and tearing it up. 9-1 record, one seed, likely MVP...if only he hadn't gotten hurt in college, who knows.

                Where is Lance Mehl?

I also have a lot of questions about a high school team from 1912 being declared best ever. High school football (as well as college) was quite disorganized back then. They have could been playing YMCA teams or even junior-high teams back then.

Yea, Big Red from 1930 was undefeated, untied, and unscored upon, and played much better competition.

A lot of the early teams were playing the same few teams multiple times per year, and small college teams, alumni, and YMCA type teams.

That does look pretty impressive. And there was a lot more organization in 1930 than there was in 1912.

The 1925 team only gave up six points. One of those was an alumni game.

If you asked Cartledge what his best team was, what would his answer be?

My father saw every Big Red team from 1924 to 2005. He always preferred the 1930 team. He also thought the 1931 team was very special. That's the year we gave Massillon their worst defeat ever and rushed for 734 yards, a national record that held up for more than fifty years.
