      1. Each team is assigned a rating based on their
      classification:
      Class A: 30 points (1-193)*
      Class AA: 40 points (194-325)
      Class AAA: 50 points (326-508)
      Class AAAA: 60 points (509+)
*NOTE: Enrollment of non-Conference schools is
to be based on total number of males and females in grades
10, 11, and 12 for that school year.

      2. Non-Conference schools will be assigned first
level point values based on enrollment figures corresponding
      with the above OVAC classifications.

      3. All schools scheduled for that season will count
      for First Level Points.

      4. BONUS POINTS: FIVE (5) Bonus Points will be
awarded for all wins by defeated OVAC opponents. NO
BONUS POINTS will be awarded for any wins by defeated
      non-Conference schools.

      5. To be eligible for the championship, the following
number of games/matches must be played with Conference
opponents before the established cutoff date for that
      sport:
      Football: three
Wrestling: five dual matches against five different opponents
      Soccer: six

      6. Once the first and second level points are determined,
the total points accumulated by the school will be
divided by the games played. The team with the highest
average at the cutoff date will be considered as the champion.

      7. If any team plays an opponent on its regular
season schedule more than two (2) times, only the first two
games played will count in the OVAC standings or toward
      minumum OVAC game/match requirements.
Wrestling will only count the first time the schools
      meet in dual meet competition.

Just think, if East Liverpool loses to Salem, then Brooke will be the winner, despite getting absolutely smoked by two teams behind them.

            What a joke.

              Agree!... System needs major overhauling...

Yes it is a joke but not for the reasoning I believe you have. If you don't play ovac teams, you can't win the conference. This is the best they can do with their joke of a mandatory scheduling rule. Football should not even crown an ovac champion because to most schools, it doesn't matter. Playoff points matter to them. Ovac could make it work with some changes but they do not have the desire to make this effort. They will continue to claim Steubenville because they go deep in Playoffs every year, but is Steubenville really a member of the ovac in football? And that's not a dig on them. The only reason they stay in the conference is for the other sports.

Why does Brooke and Big Red only have 8 games compared to 9 for the others?

Well if they don't have "mandatory scheduling" then they shouldn't have "bonus points". It makes no sense.

What kind of system is it that rewards you more for beating an OVAC team, than if you beat one of the best teams in the state??

This is the best for right now...like the BCS....In looking at the current system, it rewards teams who play teams in the OVAC....isn't that what a conference title supposed to be....The mandatory scheduling is closer than u think without a direct mandate...The big schools in 4A in WV are about to form there own league within the OVAC with mandatory scheduling in all sports. JM, Brooke, Park, Parkersburg South, Morgantown and University...That is 5 games in the OVAC amongst this group.

Well, Wheeling Park is dropping Big Red after this season, so unless JM, University, or Park. South step up, then we will even have less OVAC teams.

Steubenville doesn't want more ovac football games. That makes sense for them and it's hard not to agree with them. Again, they need the ovac for other sports. The ovac as a football conference is an absolute joke. More and more teams are going outside the area to get their games-more playoff points.

I disagree that this is the best for now. If the ovac was such a strong conference, why are these separate leagues needed?

We have played Park for a decade straight, so I guess we do want them, or we would have ditched them a long time ago.
