Wheeling Central vs. Wheeling Park

Park should play Central every year, no excuses. I've heard all the excuses about playoff points, etc, but WP played Steubenville for how ever many years and got zero playoff points, so now Steubenville is dropped from the schedule, pick up Central. WP will get more playoff points beating Central than they ever did against Steubenville, so scheduling WC cannot be a detriment to making the play-offs.

I'm a WP supporter, and it's an embarassment that WP will not schedule WC in football. What are they scared of, losing? Big Deal, it's a rivalry, you'll have a packed house, the kids would love it, the City woud love it, the media would love it and the fans would love it. The schools play against each other in every other sport, and frankly, outside of hockey, WCC has been having limited success against WP in recent years. But WCC does not try to drop WP in these other sports.

Park needs to step up and do the right thing.

the primary reason for playing wheeling park is that they are in wheeling, not morgantown. they share the same home field. it would be great for the entire community and student bodies. if anyone knows anything about how the playoff point system works, then they would not use that as an excuse. to simplify, if wheeling central wins 4 games and wheeling park beats wcc, the park would receive 10 playoff points. you average 10 points in triple A you are in the playoffs. not to mention, it is absolutely irresponsible financially not to play this game. would draw more people than any of the super six championship games. heck the basketball game the other night drew about 4000. so don't say you get nothing. it is a financial windfall, you get enough playoff points, the kids want to play and it is the right thing to do. come on man...man up..

Just posted the same potential match up in the Schedule Thread. Noticed that Park didn't have an opener and thought since Park's chances for playoff points may not be as important next year as earlier times, they may play. I do think they will be better but possibly not good enough for the Knights. Don't know unless they play!!

Exactly, what i was thinking Flyman it would be a great matchup and the rivalry between Central and Park is a favorite among wheeling. Park should just take the money this time and play its not likey that Park will have a winning record for the playoffs anyways so lets give the people what they want!

BISON, you do realize that the Palace only holds just over 2,000 but I'll say there were about 2,000 there. I think we just need to throw our hands up and play the game. So many people want and they far outnumber those that don't let's just play so everyone can stop asking for it.

thanks for the clarification on the palace capacity.......there are only a select few who do not want this game played and i think most people from wheeling and around the valley know who they are.

i used to pla football at park and i played qb for the jv..central was hands down the funnest game of football i ever played...they were winning and we drove down the field and won with about 20 seconds left when we scored but i believe it should be played i heard central has alot of talent coming up and ive seen parks talent on there freshmen team

i am glad you feel it should be played. i also played in it. opening game 8000 people in the mid 80's. however, it should not matter who has talent, who is down or who is whatever. this game should be a fabric of high school football in the valley for all of the reasons i have previously mentioned. i could not even tell you the overall series record other than wcc won 3 of the 4 i was in school. it should not matter.

It would be amazing for the community! It would be a great day in Wheeling under the friday night lights watching the two local teams give it their all out on the field.

I have never been one to push for this game because the points are critical AT TIMES for a AAA school trying to either get in or like Park in 08 finishing just tenths of a point out of 2nd place which give you home field through out. We suffered that same fate in Ohio when I played due to a weak equivalent AA team costing us needed points. But I can see the passion in the people and it would be exciting as a fan. I must get this in though, I have sat on both sides of each of these teams, and Man I would hate to win OR lose against Central, their fans are too tough for me!! Hell, that might be the reason Park does not care to play them! Win or lose it is probably uncomfortable for some time in the river city!! Oh well, play ball!!!
