I still ask anyone of any importance at Park or New Philly to get a game to happen between the two. I really think that would be awesome for both schools.

That has been a question of late. Although you have to give them a little credit for their 9-1 team two years ago. After talking to key people in their circles and seeing some of their games and athletes recently, they are not going to turn the corner any time soon. The head coach is very knowledgeable and very well liked by the athletes. But his problems are with the entire community's attitude toward this sport. Nobody wants to make the total committment to being a good and consistent football program. They have success in so many other sports, arts, and academics that maybe they are not that concerned. Programs like Big Red take a huge sacrifice and Park just will not do that. The administration with their protective rules for the coaches keep the assistants from being changed and sadly the majority of the athletes are not driven to be better football players. Those two things are critical to being a solid football team. I have witnessed the parents at some of their games and yes they want a winner, but they are not losing any sleep over it! Hell, maybe they got it right and the rest of us are wrong!! Let's face it, I would rather my kid be a hero in the classroom then on the field. I would trade all my successes on the field to have been a better student! I'm paying it for it now with my job and my career! That's why those threads about whether some kid is D1 or not cracks me up. How about let's brag about the great student athletes that are in the valley instead of the "punk" athletes that wash out and become a product of society!! I'm tired of my taxes paying for them!! Sorry about the rant guys, my wife swears I should have been a politician!

Flyman I agree with you on one point, I have never been in a bar and heard an arguement about what school has the best english teacher, or any other subject for that matter.

Thanks guys, nice shot! I was just saying that they obviously take pride in other things besides football. As for bragging about their academics, I can't answer that, the school wasn't even built when I was in high school. cas8043 you surprise me, Central is a good school for academics. I could have sworn I heard guys at the Cave Club bragging about their recent academic awards in the paper. Oops, they were all Asian kids!

Why do people assume that it is an either/or type of deal?
Big Red received back to back excellent academic ratings from the state of Ohio, and fields good football teams. Soccer, swimming, track, wrestling, and baseball are also doing well. As is the fine arts.
I've seen Park's band...which is nothing to write home about, especially considering the size of the school, so what's their excuse there?
It seems to me that they are no different from schools that put their eggs into the football basket, they just do it for basketball instead.www.rollredroll.com
