Gordon was going to Robert Morris. As much as I follow more WV teams than I do Ohio, WV should keep quiet and just play. They were fortunate to stay in the games they have and with the addition of the new teams it will help quite a bit. But as one former player from the game told me, "Excluding the top 5-6 players on each team, as you go down the roster, Ohio pulls away in talent especially with the bottom 10 guys or so." Also the game depends on how well some of these kids stay in shape over the summer. That isn't a state thing, it is a individual thing. You will find that the late addition kids and ones that do not start have no reason to keep working out much compared to the ones going to the next level. Sorry guys, I still like the idea of an OVAC All Star Game....mixed rosters! Just some random thoughts.

If a college is giving a kid athletic $$, the game is not worth the risk, I'd rather get hurt on the school's dime than my own. Football is the one sport where the risk of injury is real and almost likely in a player's career, the severity of the injury will vary but few players make their way thru high school and college without some degree of injury.

Talked to Shadyside's Brendon Sedinger last night in weightroom and he told me all he has to do is sign on dotted line to play for Bethany. He said they gave him a generous financial package. He has to have everything(all the forms and physical) done by July 15th and has to report August 10th. I guess there are silver linings to every black cloud.

Good for Sedinger. I had the opportunity to watch him play a lot last year and the All star snub is very puzzling to me. I completely understand not everyone makes it, but that is an injustice. Im happy he has the opportunity to play at a higher level.

You're right Bison. He told me the field turf is only four years old, the varsity lockeroom was remodeled within the last three years and the frosh lockeroom is being remodeled as we speak. Plus the fact when coach Weaver took over a few years ago Bethany was 1-9 and last year they finished third in the PAC. Definetly headed in the right direction. Sounds like he really fell for the school. Sounded excited to me. Great opportunity for a great kid.

So if you were a college baseball coach, which do you think would be a bigger risk for injury. One all star game or an entire legion season?

Guess it was a good decision to report early even if Connor had to miss the OVAC all-star game

For anybody who doesnt have an Inside account, here is what the article said:

West Virginia's ugly head coaching transition from Bill Stewart to Dana Holgorsen has expedited the transition of some incoming recruits.

Connor Arlia, a preferred walk-on recruited by Holgorsen from Weirton Madonna High School, was named the Most Valuable Player of West Virginia's North-South All-Star Football Game at Laidley Field in June. The showcase caught the eye of his incoming coach, and Arlia was invited to campus early for summer workouts ESPN.com's Brent Sobleski was informed.

As a result the former running back will forego playing in another all-star event for the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference July 24th.

The Mountaineers have already asked Arlia to fill a role as a slot receiver within the team's high octane offensive scheme.

Only one returning receiver, senior Tavon Austin, had more than 24 receptions in 2010. Stedman Bailey, Brad Starks, Soraya Alsien-Ogbebar, and J.D. Woods will vie for the other starting spots in Holgorsen's multiple spread attack.

Arlia will be given the chance to compete for a potential role this season with two other recruits, Dante Campbell (East Ridge H.S.) and Kenneth Meyers (First Coast H.S.) from 2011's incoming class.
