Criteria for retiring sports numbers in high school...

What schools in the Ohio Valley have retired sports numbers? What is the criteria for retiring sports numbers in high school? I've thought of some players I would think should be considered this year.

DNG, I coached an athlete who was not only an all-american, but ranked #1 in the country in his event, and you would not even know he attended high school because he was not well liked by some. It varies from school to school.

You don't retire high school jersey numbers based on what said player did in high school only. If they move on to do great things in college or the pros, then yes. High school records are not worthy of a retired jersey, or the numbers would run out. Is retiring a jersey for most points or most 3's fair to the players that played before the 3 point line?

Agreed. Just to many. Most Tds, pins and escapes in wrestling, most rushing, receiving yards, sacks and extra points in football, assist in soccer and basketball plus steals and rebounds etc.. Way too many would be retired.

            "First team all-american."

            This is our school standard.
Must be certified by more than one organzation.

I believe we have a total of 2.
