    Cheering is a SPORT!

I cheered in HS/College. We work hard and are not given enough credit.

I agree... You girls work hard.

Absolutely,my daughter was a cheerleader for a couple of years. They definitely put in alot of time and effort to a sport that does'nt get enough recognition.

i don't think so. someone made a good point in another thread; cheering isn't a sport because they cheer for the sport being played

Untill you go out there and do some of the routines they put on I dont think you can say anything against it being a sport, but you are entitled to your opinion.

Cheering is not a sport. I will never say that cheerleaders aren't athletes, because anyone who has watched them knows you have to have a vast amount of athleticism to pull off half of those moves. And it takes talent. But to me, sports are dictated by two distinct features. 1) The outcome is not subjective and 2) one team (or squad in this case) can have a direct effect (i.e. defense) on the performance of another. Cheerleading lacks both of these. And yes, that also means I deem that golf is not sport. It's a skilled activity to be sure, but John Daly threw the athelticism card out the window for that one.

Sports are actually not totally objective. Ever heard of officials?

Yes, but there's a big difference between say, basketball and football officials, to the outcome solely relying on a judges interpretation of the results.

it's still not much of a sport, but like you said i'd declare them athletes.

Yes, it is a sport. It's a pretty demanding one, too.

Back when I was at JMHS, they actually decided to have a few guys cheer for about half of one year. I remember thinking: "What kind of guy does this?"

Now I think: "Gee, I could have spent all this time with attractive girls in skimpy outfits. I should have given that a shot."

Guys, a girl can be very sexy and still be very athletic at the same time. That's not just a sport--that is art.
