Martins Ferry to Host Track and Field and Cross Country Recruiting Night

Martins Ferry High School will be hosting the 1st ever Track and Field and Cross Country Recruiting Night on Sunday, November 29th from 4-9 p.m. for all Ohio Valley juniors and seniors. Nearly 45 college coaches from Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Indiana and Michigan will be attendance to recruit our kids that sometimes (unfortunately) get overlooked. Schools in attendance range from Division I all the way down to Junior College. Cost of the event will be $7 per athlete, with parents being admitted free to accompany their child.

Just a reminder, which wasn't mentioned in the Times Leader article: Seniors are the only ones permitted to speak to Division I coaches (as well as all other divisions), whereas juniors are permitted to speak to only Division II and III institutions.

The recruiting night, after to talking to the Martins Ferry coaches, was a huge success. For the first year, the event attracted 127 athletes from all over the Tri-State area. Athletes from East Liverpool all the way to Parkersburg South in the OVAC and even runners from Winfield Co (WV), Charleston, Pittsburgh Area schools (Canon-Mac, North Hills) and eastern district schools like John Glenn, Indian Valley were all in attendance.

This is going to be a continuing effort from year to year, so keep an ear out for next year's event!

Sounds like a great event for the athletes but why were the athletes charged an admission and where did the money go or what was it used for?
