    shuttle hurdle relay

this friday the team i coiach on will be competing at the Lebonan Warrior Relays in Lebonan,Ohio. they have 2 different shuttle hurdle relays for the boys and girls. along with the standard 4x100 and 4x110 SH relay they also have a 4x300 SH relay for the boys and girls,,,the first person starts at the actual finish kline and runs over the hurdles in the places they are set for a normal 300h race and runs to the actual starting line,,,it took me a while to find info on this. we practiced it a few times in the past 2 weeks and it worked out pretty well,,now i hope it goes well tomorrow night.

also, as i look at times for boys and girls shuttles back in the valley,,do the girls run over 30 or 33 inch hurdles and do the boys still run over 30 or 36 inch hurdles ?where we are the boys run exclusively over 36in. hurdles and the girls run over 30 inch but some meets require us to run over a 33.

Shuttles in the valley are 30" for both boys and girls. That is why people have complained on the boys side it is not a hurdle race. The girls in WV actually run 102 meters so the distance to the first hurdle is the same on both ends. Boys run the 110 meters since the distance to the first hurdle and the finish is exactly 15 yards (do not ask me to convert to meters for this race, it is 15 yards to the first hurdle, 10 yards between, and 15 to the finish.

Dad you have me confused in the 4x300. The first hurdle in the race is 45 meters from the start with the next 7, 35 meters between. and 10 meters to the finish. How do they space them. I am VERY curious.

I'm curious also. My daughter has been running hurdles since 7th grade---she is now a Sr at Marshall University and runs the 100 and 400 hurdles for the Herd. To be honest, I have never heard or seen the 300 hurdle relay event. Just googled it and got no info.

vin and cas,,i googled it as well many times and couldnt find any info,,,the hurdle spacing remains the same,,the #2 and #4 runners will run the standard way for the 300s,,,while the #1 and #3 will run them as they would be normally but facing a different direction. when the 1 and 3 come off of hurdle #8 it will be 10m as well....ive never seen the race run before so it will be a learning experience. my girls did pretty well with it in practice as did the boys,,,even though its a long race they really liked it.

shuttles and highs for girls and boys are always 8 steps to the first hurdle and 3 steps in between, if the hurdler isw able to reach. when i used to run shuttles and 300 hurdles 30 years ago our hurdles were only able to be placed at 2 heights 30 and 39,,,maybe thats why they still run the boys at a 30 in hurdle for shuttles.
the school record for my girls shuttle teams are 1.04.3 over a 30 in hurdle and 1.05.5 over a 33 in hurdle, both were reset last spring.

i wish i could have filmed the race but wasnt able to,,,my girls placed 2nd in the 4x100 shuttles with a 1.05.8 and then placed 3rd in the 4x300 with a total time of 3.25,, the only bad thing about running the 4x300 shuttles is lane 1/2 has a greater advantage over lane 7/8 . the host team put themselves(boys and girls) in the inside lane and ran to victory,,we figured the further out you were the futher your runners had to run, at least 30 meters total. all in all is was a good meet to go to and a learning experience for both boys and girls shuttle teams running the 4x300's.

if anyone is interested in running this event back,4x300's, in the valley i would be more than glad to help with how to run the event and set it up.
