In order to have a system, there must be support from the top down. This means BOE members need to redirect parents who call to complain to the PROPER chain of command...... Coach - Athletic Director - Principal - Superintendent. Board members need to stop taking these calls. The first question out of their mouth should be "Have you talked to the head coach regarding this matter" and if they have not the BOE members should stop the conversation immediately. Instead they listen, talk amongst themselves in their private little meetings and don't even have the nerve to go to the Coaches and let them explain their point of view. 95% of the time coaches are not even aware there is a problem. Do the BOE members go to practices and evaluate the players performance every day? Day after day? Think not.
Further more..... How about this..... Ask the parent if little Johnnie has talked to coach about the complaint himself like a big boy. Wish I had a quarter for every time I hear a parent say, "Johnnie won't say anything (or doesn't want me to say anything) because he likes playing the sport". (Ah-hmm) so.... Johnnie likes it and has no problem with it, it is you with the problem. Heck, one of the BOE members himself is famous for the letter he wrote to the coaches and AD stating that his son "begged him not to say anything". (Not to mention that this same board member called all the football coaches "bums" in this same letter.) - - Now that's what I call support???
This district needs BOE members that support their staff, trust the recommendations of their Superintendent (like all other BOEs), and worry more about EDUCATION and leave coaching issues up to the Coaches. And for God's sake, if they feel the coach is doing something wrong, go to him (immediately) so he may correct it or defend it. Then maybe somebody in their right mind would want to come from outside and coach for Buckeye. I commend all of Buckeye's Coaches for even wanting to coach there. Seems hardly worth the aggravation to me.
I think that anyone that would want to build a program would be interested in the position. Whomever is chosen needs to be left alone to do what needs done. It's going to be a 3-4 year process and won't happen overnight. Will also involve a lot of time, so it might be a good idea for a teaching position to open for this particular person. If that can happen, I'm sure some quality candidates will look for a position like this. That is if the current coach decides to retire.
Current coach has been there 3 years and like you said, it takes time. Due to injuries and low counts this past season a lot of young players were able to get some experience on the Varsity level. This was a very rare opportunity. Although the injuries were very unfortunate, I think the experience the younger players received will pay off next season and we will start to see things turn around no matter who the coaches are.
Bottom line : Anyone that could make a difference needs total control. No interference from PARENTS that run to their favorite board member to straighten out the coaches thinking, No interference from the BOE, and no interference from any internal groups. Without total control no one of caliber will step up and put their name on the program. Having said that it makes you wonder how the present staff wouldve done without interference.
how can a school board member be so down on the coaches after all weren't they the ones who hired them in the first place? if a board member did not a particular candidate why did they hire him any way?
It's not all the board members. Go to a meeting and you can figure it out pretty quik. You mention Roberts rule of order and the answer is "who's Robert" LOL

Regard your soldiers as your children, and they will follow you into the deepest valleys.

Here is the resume folks - no other school would even consider rehiring. It takes time - you are correct, but there has been absolutely no progress made. Stop with the injuries and young team excuse all schools in the valley have to deal with that but have found ways to be competitive. IMO if things don't change now - they will be lucky to field a team next year.

Good luck next year as the New Head Football Coach @ Buckeye Local.
HAHA just stating the facts. When you only have 30 plus kids going out something is fundamentally wrong. No one is buying in. Just saying . . . record speaks for itself.

This particular board member caused trouble for months last year, holding up the rehiring of Coaches only to realize 4 months later he had to abstain from the final vote due to having a child on the football team. He outright lied to other board members regarding some conduct issues about coach pest and once the board members called a special private meeting with coach pest and gave him a chance to defend himself against the lies they came out of the executive meeting and voted him back in as coach. This board member's son is no longer on the Panther football team. His dad, a BL board member, enrolled him in another school. (talk about "speaks volumes")
Coach Pest's job was up for voting in the December meeting and it was tabled once again. Should be back on agenda for Thursday's meeting.

You are so right. Wish more people would attend these meeting to see who the community is voting in to these positions. Not saying they are all bad but just come see for themselves. Would only take one time to open their eyes.
