Also, from just looking at the list of teams, I can tell you that 160 will be the weight class to watch!

If I am reading the brackets right, 4 mats will be used and you wrestle on the same mat your entire pool.

What makes you think that and if so who wins it? Maybe MVP of tourney?

In the past 5 mats have been used......not sure what they are doing this yr....3 in the main gym and 2 in the second gym....but usually you stay on the same mat for your pool

                    This is my reasoning:

Within this class, you have Kody Crooks (OVAC Champion). The runner-up in Bobby Richmond, who defeated Crooks earlier this year. Christian Roe of Madonna who just defeated Bobby Richmond. Paul Blake of Cameron who placed third at OVACs. Andrew Crook who placed fifth. Last but not least, the OVAC one seed who placed seventh in Doug Eddy.

The MVP should come from the winner of 189, either Nate Karl or Kyle McWreath.

As confusing as it is with names, Richmond beat Crook from Bellaire earlier this year, not Crooks from Barnesville.

Anybody know if they are doing the finals under the light again? Makes the day go a bit longer but I think it's worth watching the finals under the light.

Skry and Co. pull off another great tournament. Finals under the single mat light were all top notch. Still one of the great area high school wrestling tournaments.

                            Times-Leader story:

No place like home for Buckeye grapplers
By Rich Gibson POSTED: February 13, 2010

It was worth the wait for Nathan Skrzypek and his Buckeye Local Panthers.

One week after the annual Buckeye Local mat classic was snowed out, the Connorville-based school hosted 16 teams Saturday and took home the championship trophy.

Buckeye piled up 310.5 points, easily outdistancing runnerup St. Clairsville which compiled 228. Bellaire's Big Reds were a close third with 218.5. Cameron came home in fourth and Martins Ferry was fifth, tallying 208.5.

"It was a well-rounded, solid effort on our part. You've got to be happy to win the title going up against a high quality field," Skrzypek remarked.

"Hopefully, this gives us some momentum for the sectionals which will really be competitive."

Buckeye produced a pair of individual champions in 215-pounder Rylan Pyciak who needed overtime to outlast Anthony DeLeonardo of western Pennsylvania's Plum High by 4-2; and 119-pounder Cody Wiltshire, a 6-4 decision victor over St. C. ace Dillon Nolte.

In all, the Panthers qualified five grapplers into the championship round.

The Red Devils of Jay Michael were solid in a runnerup role.

'Considering we only brought eight kids down here, I've got to be pleased," said Michael whose team boasted a tournament best three champions.

Mainstay 145-pounder Dominick Prezzia improved his stellar record to 35-1 after edging Bellaire's Jesse Dobson, 2-1.

St. C. also received title-winning efforts from talented Seth Callarik, improving to 30-2 after pinning the Panthers Jacob Hilliard. The Red Devils' Michael Yockey was victorious at 112.

Harrison Central produced two champions in heavyweight John Eckroth who elevates to 31-2 after decisioning Weirton Madonna's Christian McGaughey.

Also shining for the Huskies was 160-pounder Doug Eddy, a narrow 5-4 victor against Barnesville's Kody Crooks.

Shamrocks' star Kurtis Jeffries captured the 152-pound crown with a 4-2 decision of Cameron's Tanner Whyte.

The Purple Riders produced a champion in 103-pounder Damon Outward. Bridgeport's Jimmy Gessler took home the first place trophy after pinning St. John's Joe Kosky.

Madonna's Max Nogay was voted top individual wrestler. The Blue Dons' senior pinned Ferry's Jeff Ober**** to claim the 171-pound title.

Five teams originally slated to compete in the tournament were unable to return Saturday including defending champion Chartiers Valley (Pa.) in addition to Indian Creek, Buckeye Valley, Shadyside and Franklin Regional (Pa.).

Madonna's Christian Roe defeated BD's Bobby Richmond 6-5 in Round 3. However, the above article incorrectly states that Roe defeated Costa in the consolations finals. Roe was defeated by Edison's Costa, 3-2.
