There are two criteria for a school to join the Big 10 (12), 1. Border a current member school. 2. Be a member of the AAU (Association of American Universities). The AAU is a Research based qualification that all big 10 schools have. So when they said WVU couldn't become a member of the Big 10 for academic reasons they weren't referring to individual athletes but the University as a whole.

Schools eligible for admission to the Big 10 include:
          Rutgers
          Buffalo
          Marlyand
          Syracuse
          Pittsburgh
          Missouri
          Iowa State

Notre Dame is not a member of the AAU but according to Big 10 officials an exception would be made based on their high academic standards.

The ACC had to surreptitiously target and unethically raid 5 members of another college conference over the past decade to obtain such "relevance."

The ACC feared that it had become #2 in basketball to the Big East and had to preempt a new Big East television contract that was coming next year---in fact, Pitt Chancellor Nordenberg, who was then conference chairman, talked the other Big East members earlier this year into "waiting" and rejecting ESPN's $1 billion renewal offer.

And that makes you proud of what the ACC just did? Blazac was right--"Behind every great fortune, there is a crime."

Yep, if you think basketball had anything to do with this, you are wrong. Basketball is peanuts when compared to football.

CBSSports' Brett McMurphy is reporting that West Virginia University has been rejected by both the ACC and the SEC. Those were the two major conferences WVU was applied to join after both Syracuse and Pitt jumped to the ACC Conference. McMurphy first reported this story on his twitter account @BrettMcMurphyCBS:

"Multiple Big East sources said they have been told by WVU officials that WVU rejected by ACC & SEC."

McMurphy was also the first person to report on Saturday that Syracuse and Pitt have been accepted into the ACC.

What does WVU bring to the table for a major conference like the ACC or SEC? WVU has QUALITY Sports programs in almost every sport but all that matters right now in this mad feeding frenzy is $$$$ for football, which translates to eyes on the screen, which WVU lacks. WVU has a hugh instate alumni base but in a state which only ranks 36th in population. Personally would love to see WVU in the ACC but the sad fact is no conference is trying to scoop them up because the school is so unattractive from a $$ standpoint ONLY- WVU otherwise has everything a major conference should desire.

Let me answer my own question. Because they are not Notre Dame. Again, don't compare the 2 schools.

Notre Dame better get over itself quickly and sign on with somebody; they are on the verge of irrelevancy if things continue in the direction they are going.

I agree that they need to sign, but let's be honest, a conference will take them at any point. No matter what their record, they are a national draw. They will never be irrelevant. And yes, this is why ND is hated by many-they know they hold the cards.
