Let me answer my own question. Because they are not Notre Dame. Again, don't compare the 2 schools.
Notre Dame started the greedy, ME FIRST television contract model in college sports that Texas has emulated. It's really nothing to be proud of--they used the Big East for their selfish purposes and never made a "marriage" commitment. Notre Dame has no shame.

Ok. Maybe the Atlantic 10 can get going again.

Well, ND will need a baseball conference they can dominate, so I hope so.

What about the other Big East Schools? Cincy is only a couple of years removed from being the Big East's BCS rep 2 years in a row. TCU is scheduled to come in next year (why they didn't try to jump to the Big 12 instead is beyond me). UConn and Louisville have both won conference championships and been the BCS rep within the past 5 years. Rutgers has been respectable.

Personally, I think it's only a matter of time before the Big 10 goes after Rutgers and that New York TV market.

I guess maybe if the Big 12 really wanted to be the Big 12, they could try to snatch back TCU and pick up either Cincy or Louisville (geographically speaking those 2 would be OK fits).

I actually hope they get into one of these conferences. I want ND to join a conference and with these 3 leaving, they would have to. Certain posters just don't get the landscape of college athletics. They talk a good game and use very professionally sounding words. But in the end, they are jealous.

The potential problem ND and other schools like WVU who are in folding conferences are facing is that the NCAA could become irrelevant in major college football. If the ACC, Big 10, PAC 12 and SEC all have 16 to 20 team conferences at some point, they could (if $$$ are in fact the main object) separate from the NCAA and create their own college football league. It's been talked about on ESPN a few times. This would leave teams who didn't jump on one of these conferences up the creek without a paddle. The NCAA championship would mean nothing, and they would lose a ton of $.

I agree with Weez, ND will never be left out if they want to join, they bring way too much $$$ to the table and have a better academic reputation than most of the schools who are already in these conferences. I honestly believe that the above scenario is the ONLY way ND jumps on board with a conference. They want no part of revenue sharing. IMO, WVU will not be left out because sooner or later they'll be the best available option.

There is a big difference between playing one good team a year and being in a conference full of good teams.

Based on the Big 12 most likely staying together and the ACC additions, Louisville, ND, Cincy, Maryland, and Rutgers are the prime choices for the Big Ten to pick from. Personally I'd love to see ND and Louisville join because they both have strong basketball programs and above average football programs. If the Big Ten added any of the potential schools, them and the ACC would be head and shoulders above the rest of the country in college basketball.
