WASHINGTON, Pa. – A week after being selected to D3baseball.com’s All-America Team, Washington & Jefferson College junior right-handed pitcher Eddie Nogay (Weirton, W.Va./Madonna) earned American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings NCAA Division III All-America laurels on Tuesday as a third-team selection.
Nogay, who earned second-team honors from D3baseball.com, capped one of the top individual seasons in W&J history with a 12-1 record and a 3.01 earned-run average. Nogay’s 12 victories were the second-most in NCAA Division III this season.
He pitched a single-season, school-record 86 2/3 innings and held a 1.13 WHIP (77 hits, 21 walks), while striking out 70 batters (2nd in PAC; 50th in nation). Nogay also fired three shutouts which improved his career total to five (5th among active NCAA Division III pitchers).
The 2013 D3baseball.com Mideast and Presidents’ Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year, owns a 22-1 career record and a 2.61 ERA. He won the first 16 decisions of his career and has yet to suffer a loss during one of his 27 starts. Opponents are batting just .245 against him in 199 2/3 innings and Nogay has recorded 129 strikeouts.
Heading into his senior season, the NCAA Mideast Region All-Tournament Team choice already is among the top five pitchers in W&J history in numerous career categories: ERA (2.62, 2nd), shutouts (5, 2nd), victories (22, 3rd), innings (199.2, 4th) and strikeouts (129, 5th).
Nogay helped the Presidents post a 33-13 record this spring. W&J won the PAC regular-season and tournament championships and placed third at the NCAA Mideast Regional (Terre Haute, Ind.), the highest regional finish in school history.
Washington & Jefferson is led by Head Coach Jeff Mountain, who wrapped up his 11th season with a 303-170-1 record (.640). He earned the 300th victory of his career during a 9-3 PAC Tournament Championship Game victory over Thomas More which marked the fifth conference championship won under his guidance.
