Football season for many people in the Ohio Valley will officially kickoff tonight at Wheeling Island Stadium when the West Virginia All-Stars take on the Ohio All-Stars in the Rudy Mumley All-Star Game at Wheeling Island Stadium with a 7:15 kick. This week the players, cheerleaders, the McDonalds All Star Band, the Queen of Queens along with many others have been working hard to make this event a success again this year. Events this week included the George Strager Evening with the Stars, the Queen of Queens Pageant, and last night’s Pep Rally at Wheeling University on Bishop Schmitt Field.
Over 300 students have been on the Wheeling University campus this week preparing for this year’s Rudy Mumley All-Star Game that not only kicks off the football season but also begins the OVAC season as well. Over 12,000 student athletes and 46 schools participate in a variety of sports throughout the year. The Rudy Mumley All-Star Football Game is the flagship event, yet it is just one of the magnificent events put on by the OVAC.
The McDonalds All Star Band opened the event with a preview of a couple of songs from their halftime show. What followed was the introduction of the teams, cheerleaders, and Queen of Queen participants. During this time, many awards and scholarships were also given out to the participants. This event grows each year with more awards and scholarships given out during the Pep Rally.
