Under Dana Holgorsen, the Mountaineers put three receivers into the NFL this past draft. Tavon Austin and Stedman Bailey were drafted within the first three rounds with Austin going 8th overall. JD Woods was undrafted but showed off his hands in Saturday night’s preseason game with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Holgorsen has a thing for taking under the radar talent and turning it into something spectacular. Kevin White will be no different.
White, a 6-3, 211 pound JUCO transfer, is listed as the number one receiver on the depth chart coming into the 2013 season. Coaches have high expectations for the big bodied receiver, but won’t know how he’ll handle the speed of Division I football. White, though, has his own expectations with WVU.
White has already went on record and questioned whether or not he could break Bailey’s receiving records. White surely has the body to succeed in college football. He’s a quick guy with a NFL type body. He could gain some weight, but he’s already taken steps to thickening up his body.
White will be a threat going deep, as well as going across the middle. This season might be a growing season for the transfer receiver, but when his two-year career is done at West Virginia, I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s considered nice draft pick in the NFL Draft. The fact that WVU has a receiver like this will make it easier on a quarterback coming into the game, no matter who it is. Mark my words: Kevin White will shine at WVU.
