Game 2: Bishop Gorman 73, Villa Angela- St. Joseph 60
In a game that featured three of the top 60 high school juniors in the nation, Bishop Gorman’s Stephen Zimmerman (#2 ESPN Top 60) stood above the rest. His 21 points and 8 rebounds earned him game MVP honors.
They were in a dogfight with Cleveland, Villa Angela- St. Joseph for three quarters before finally being able to pull away in the fourth. VASJ was led by Simon Texidor with 21 points and Carlton Bragg (#10 ESPN Top 60) with 9 points and 14 rebounds.
Gorman held an 11-point lead to start the third before VASJ went on an 8 – 0 run to cut the game to 2. That would be the closest they got, though as Gorman regained control and ran away with the victory.
Zimmerman led Gorman with 21 while Nick Blair scored 19 with 9 rebounds. Chase Jeter (#37 ESPN Top 60) scored 11 with 9 rebounds.
Game 3: Wheeler 68, Prime Prep 66 / OT
The most entertaining game of the night happened to be a fill-in matchup created because of cancelations due to the weather. It was a back-and-forth affair and didn’t have a lead of more than 5 points on any occasion.
Wheeler took a 4-point lead with 1:38 remaining which was the largest lead by either team in the second half. Prime answered with a layup and a steal before Mudiay tied things up at 61 with a layup. Both teams would have one final shot at the win in regulation, but would not succeed.
Late in overtime, Jerron Love hit a runner to give Wheeler a late 2 point lead, but Da’Shawn Williams would answer with a 3 to regain the lead for Prime. The final blow would come from Elijah Staley when he grabbed an offensive rebound and laid it back in with 18 second remaining to give Wheeler the victory.
Emmanuel Mudiay (#5 Senior, ESPN Top 100) led all scorers with 25 points and added 9 rebounds for Prime Prep. Da’Shawn Williams added 16 points for the Truth.
Jaylon Brown paced Wheeler with 21 points and 8 rebounds giving him MVP honors while Avery Patterson added 12.
