Barnesville Makes the Valley Proud Yet Again

This weekend Ovathletics.com had the chance to visits one of our favorite settings and towns, Barnesville, OH. This time it was for the 53^rd annual Doan Ford Wrestling Invitational.

As always Barnesville impresses us. It was standing room only in what happens to be one of our favorite gyms. The high school was standing tall on these couple days making for a very warm, friendly, and clean atmosphere. The boosters had a wonderful concession stand set up and volunteers were all over to help out. As you approach through he main doors you can even notice how the event was being livestreamed into the school’s auditorium so people could always watch from there.

As for the invitational this is one of the better wrestling events we have attended. 23 schools made the trip to Barnesville for this thing. Some schools making a trip from as far away as Johnstown, PA. Bishop McCort is one such example making that very drive. While talking about Bishop McCort not only did they make the drive, but they brought the good too. Having what is considered to be the best pound for pound wrestler in the country, Bo Bassett (120). In fact, speaking with some of the attendees they stated that Bishop McCort was the number one ranked team in the country.

Not to be undone some of our other local Ohio Valley favorites showed up and showed up big. Parkersburg South made the trek up to Barnesville and brought with the one of a young man that we are very fond of, Robert Shockey. We watched him lead the South football team to the state finals just a couple weekends ago on Wheeling Island. This weekend Shockey (190) placed second as well as fellow Patriots Aaydin King (106), Ryan Martin (138), and Kyle Wheeler (165). This helped South take the overall victory this weekend at the Barnesville Doan Ford Invitational with 192 points.

The host Barnesville took third place with home town guys Johnathan Huntsman (106) and Reese Stephen (144) getting first place at the event. Ayden King (157) also added a second place to finish to contribute to the great good. As well as Dakota King (132) placing third to add to the point total.

Full scores will be listed below, but to mention a few other notables we would like to C.J. Spencer (150) and Dominic Paterra (157) both of Indian Creek getting first place finishes. Axle Sailing (285) of Shenandoah also gets a first place finish this weekend.

Elijiah Llewellyn (215) of Indian Creek and Ethan Cook (126) from John Marshall came up with some second place finishes.

Other third place finishes were Tristen Rossiter (113) Shenandoah and Nathan Murphy (144) Parkersburg South.

We want to congratulate all the wrestlers that took part in this invitational as this was a very tough competition. We really would like to give Barnesville and AD Hananas a special shout to a well organized and exciting event. Barnesville has done nothing but impress the new ownership group at Ovathletics and we have to mention that. Please if you have a chance go watch something out Barnesville. You won’t be able to not fall in love with this school and community.
