Columbus, OH. – With this being the final weekend of the regular season, the Wheeling University Outdoor Track & Field team sent some of their top athletes to the Jesse Owens Classic. Day one kicked off on Friday, with the sprinters taking center stage as the Cardinals competed in five different events throughout the day. The team had one top ten finish on the day and had two athletes finish in the top 15 of their events.

Leading the way was junior Moses Koroma, who was one of two Cardinals the compete in the Men’s 400-Meter dash. Koroma would take home the top individual mark of the day for the Cardinals, finishing 10th with a time of 54.56 seconds, finishing just under four seconds off pace from the race winner. The time was just 1.27 seconds behind his PR for the event as he goes through his final preparations before the 2023 Mountain East Conference (MEC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Fellow hurdler Julian Griffin would also run in the event, and was able to crack the top 20, finishing 18th with a time of 56.98 seconds. The two Cardinals representatives from the NCAA Indoor Track & field National Championships look to get back their once again for outdoor season.

The distance runners were up next as sophomore Izaiha Browning competed in the first of two events this weekend. He would place 41st overall in the field with a time of 4:00.34, setting a new PR in the event by over three seconds. The women got their day started in the 200-Meter Dash as Ka’niya McGowan competed. She would pick up the next top 15 finish of the day, taking 12th with a time of 25.12 seconds. Jabez Reeves competed in the men’s half of the event and also placed 12th with a time of 21.77 events to grab the final top 12 finish of the day. Sophomore Nick Zaller would be the only field event to compete on the day as he took on the Men’s Javelin. He would place 17th with a distance of 45.54 meters as he continues to grow in the event.
