Park Girls Blow Past John Marshall

Game two of the Sam Andy Classic saw the ladies take the court as rivals John Marshall and Wheeling Park battled it out at Wesbanco Arena in honor of the late Coach Sam Andy. Wheeling Park was coming off of a heartbreaking defeat at the hands of Pennsylvania power, South Fayette. Head Coach Ryan Young’s squad took the opening tip and scored almost immediately and then right away went into that very dangerous press and would not back down against John Marshall. The press would play a key factor in this game as Wheeling Park forced 27 turnovers on the night. The relentless attack of the Patriots helped propel them to a 24-8 lead after one quarter of play.

Wheeling Park exploded in the second half scoring the first 22 points of the half. John Marshall was able to get a basket with 1:37 to go in the first half, but Wheeling Park had a commanding 46-14 lead at the half. The second half started much like the second quarter as Wheeling Park started with a 6-0 run. At the third quarter media timeout the Patriots led 55-16. The two teams traded turnovers in the final three minutes of the third quarter but Park led 60-19 at the end of three. When the final buzzer sounded Wheeling Park walked away with the victory 72-30.

Natalie Daugherty led all scorers on the night for Wheeling Park. She collected 17 points and two rebounds. She also led the team in assists with six and forced six turnovers. Alexis Bordas had 15 points, four steals and four rebounds. Junior classmate Lala Woods also chipped in with 15 points, four assists, two blocks, four steals and four rebounds. Senior Jillian Huffman collected six points, eight rebounds and an assist. Sophomore Seneca Heller was strong on the boards as well bringing down four rebounds and also stealing the ball three times. She also collected three assists and nine points. Ryleigh Hicks collected three rebounds as well as Hailey Downer.

Kaylee White dropped in eight points and collected two assists, one block, two steals and three rebounds. Freshman Kalyn Reese forced four Park turnovers and had one assist, one block and a point on the evening. Sophomore Masyn Inclan sunk a three pointer and also forced four Park turnovers.

The Patriots return to action on Saturday as they take on Spring Mills in Morgantown. John Marshall will look to regroup and rebound on Monday as they hit the road to take on another rival in Brooke.
