IMO its going to be more turmoil with everyone knowing Jose volunteered to help. Most people in this town love Jose Davis and are not stupid enough to believe he would hurt the program like the ones that never wanted him helping out Spig. My understanding is that Ty Mas was coming back also. With Mike Sherwood Ty and Jose it would not get any better for the offense. Spig is a good DC and HC but he needs help on offense
Tough times don't last but tough people do

The player told me that was the 1st time that happened in 3 years. I like both Spig and Jose, but if you think this would work, you have never been on a coaching staff.
Just out of curiosity, what was their record during that period?

Mike Sherwood is making 60+ (Double Dippin) as an Athletic Director & doesn't have the stones to tell Mark Spig that Coach Davis is who needs to be our OC. It's ok, we'll go 8-2 and lose to Shadyside & St. C possibly 7-3 losing to Ferry, make the playoffs and get embarrassed again because we can't throw.

The rumor is that they are all coming back (except for Andres). Spig, Jose, and Magistro could be tri-head Coaches. Lance Mehl would Coach linebackers, Galloway can Coach the receivers. Andy Dorris is not doing anything, I’m sure he would like to help. And don’t forget Jake, the Bonar Brothers, Ty Fleming, Terry and John Snivley, Jerry Buti, and maybe even Rudy Sharkey will come back. (Check Rudy’s record at Barberton after he was fired from Bellaire) We could have a dozen-head Coach staff. Everybody working together in 1 big happy family.

Were Kovalik and Bowman there for the 74 and 75 seasons?

Has anyone herd anything about Payton returning. I know someone said something about it in a earlier post.

Good question. I thought when Bellaire got a new AD Spig would have a whole new staff. Obviously the former AD had nothing to do with who was on his staff. According to his surrogates on this site, he couldn't hire who he wanted and he was forced to keep people he didn't want.

Came off a 9-1 season in 1975. Only lost to North Canton Hoover in the rain. The one thing about Coach O, he wouldn't schedule cupcakes. He was after the points for the state rankings. As per the schedule, the usual plus Park, Marietta, Aliquippa (77 & &8), Ygstwn North, and Steubenville (79). The big downfall was in '78 when we opened up with a lost to St. John.

Though I was young, I always thought that coach O played strong teams. Thanks for the info.
