Steelers lose on last second field goal

A last second field goal and an Antonio Brown fumble led to the Steelers second loss of the season. Ben Roethlisberger played a very good game at the quarterback position throwing for four touchdowns. He picked up 384 yards altogether and did his best in helping the Steelers out.

The opening drive resulted in a Carson Palmer interception on the first play from scrimmage. After a good return from Marcel Reese, Palmer tried throwing the first play and Ryan Clark intercepted it and returned it 26 yard line to set the Steelers up with good field position. The drive end with a Ben Roethlisberger to Heath Miller four-yard touchdown pass. The Raiders would answer though, as five plays later Darren McFadden went off the right tackle for a 65-yard touchdown run.

The Steelers would put together another scoring drive to make the score 14-7. A twelve-play drive, taking up nearly seven minutes, resulted in another Heath Miller touchdown catch, this one from four yards again.

No points would be put up on the board late in the second quarter when Carson Palmer connected with Darius Heyward-Bey on a three-yard touchdown catch. The Raiders were able to capitalize on a Jonathan Dwyer fumble.

The Steelers would tack a 33-yard field goal on as the first half expired, taking a 17-14 lead into half.

The second half opened up with the Steelers getting the ball, and putting together a nine-play scoring drive. The drive featured two passes to Mike Wallace, which both went for 22 yards. One came on a third and fifteen and the other came on a third and five. The second catch went for a touchdown, a play that Mike Wallace stood in the endzone wide open with no Raiders within ten yards of him.

Another answer was made by Palmer and the Raiders offense as they scored another touchdown. After a Darren McFadden touchdown was overturned, Palmer hit Richard Gordon for a one-yard touchdown on third and goal. It made the score 24-21.

Roethlisberger responded yet again with a touchdown scoring drive. A big third down conversion was made on a nine yard completion to Heath Miller, who played a phenomenal game. Two plays later, the Roethlisberger hit Brown on a screen pass to the outside. Brown got down to the one yard line, where he fumbled. A big scrum broke out in the endzone for the ball, but it rolled into the arms of Brown who recovered his own fumble to give the Steelers a 31-21 lead.

Oakland would score their fourth touchdown of the game on the next drive, a drive that consisted of eleven plays. On a second a goal from the six, Palmer threw his third touchdown of the game to Denarius Moore.

The next drive for the Steelers featured the turning point of the game. Roethlisberger hit Brown over the middle for a big twenty yard gain, but Brown fumbled at the end of the play and it was recovered by the Raiders Philip Wheeler. Oakland would take nine plays and settle for a Sebastion Janikowski 32 yard field goal.

The Steelers would get the ball back and Mike Tomlin, on a fourth and one from the Steelers 29, ran Issac Redman up the middle for a six yard gain. The Steelers were fired up after converting a do-or-die play but would not be able to get a first down and were forced to punt. Palmer and the offense had 1:43 left and would march down the field to get into Janikowski field goal range. A timeout was called with seconds left and Janikowski knocked down a 44 yard field goal to win the game, and shock the Steelers.

A big fumble by Brown and a poor showing by the defense resulted in a Steelers 1-2 record. A week four bye week will be next week.
