Week 11: High School Football Predictions

Shawn’s Record

Overall: 126-53, .704
Last Week: 16-5, .762
Upset Special: 2-5, .286

WHEELING — Ahhh, I’m feeling a bit better about things this week. Not back into bragging territory, mind you. But still, it’s good to be back.

The regular season is winding down in West Virginia, but it’s win-or-go-home time in the state of Ohio. If you’ve never been to a local prep football postseason contest, please do yourself a favor and get to one. I promise you won’t be disappointed.

We’re going to be picking every playoff game involving OVAC teams until the tournaments have concluded. With that being said, don’t be upset if I reveal your team will get blown out; it’s nothing personal. But let’s get real, a No. 16 seed — in almost every case — is not going to lose, 21-14, to the top seed.

So relax and enjoy.

We’ll start with Ohio postseason games and then get into the West Virginia side of the river.

Division III

Region 9
No. 3 Steubenville 49, No. 11 Tallmadge 12
Big Red should have reserves in by late second quarter.

No. 5 Hubbard 27, No. 12 New Philadelphia 17
The Eagles lost only to 10-0 South Range. Quakers’ four losses came to teams with a combined 36-3 record.

No. 2 Dover 20, No. 15 Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary 13
Take a look at that Irish schedule. Wow!

Division IV

Region 13
No. 7 Glenville 44, No. 10 Beaver Local 7
The Beavers have never faced speed like this.

Region 15
No. 2 St. Clairsville 30, No. 15 Licking Valley 16
Only one suspect loss on the Panthers’ schedule — Watkins Memorial.

No. 3 John Glenn 38, No. 14 Union Local 12
The turnaround season ends here for Jets.

No. 11 Vinton County 24, No. 6 Meadowbrook 21
UPSET SPECIAL: Just call it a hunch.

Both teams are battle-tested.

Division V

Region 17
No. 1 Kirtland 50, No. 16 Harrison Central 3
I don’t pick high school teams to get shut out.

No. 3 Garaway 44, No. 14 Buckeye Local 3
See above.

No. 5 Bellaire 22, No. 12 Crestview 20
Beware of the Rebels. Not a pushover.

No. 8 Manchester 34, No. 9 Edison 20
Want to pick the Wildcats, but can’t get their loss to Harrison out of my mind.

Division VI

Region 23
No. 1 Fort Frye 32, No. 16 Northridge 6
There is a reason a team is 5-5 and barely qualified.

No. 2 Fairland 29, No. 15 Buckeye Trail 10
There are some big victories on the Dragons schedule.

No. 4 Barnesville 36, No. 13 Dawson-Bryant 13
Hornets’ five victories came against teams a combined 9-31 record.

Division VII

Region 27
No. 3 Shadyside 25, No. 14 Fairfield Christian 13
I’m uneasy with the way the Tigers finished the regular season.

No. 6 Waterford 31, No. 11 Conotton Valley 12
Wildcats’ schedule was decidedly more difficult.

No. 10 Monroe Central 21, No. 7 River 20
This is a much different Seminoles team than the one River beat, 48-26, in Week 3.

No. 8 Caldwell 23, No. 9 Frontier 22
Honestly have no idea which team wins.

West Virginia

John Marshall 29, Oak Glen 22
This is one the Monarchs have to have.

Nice win for the Wildcats.
